Snakes have a fearsome reputation but not for one young girl in the UK with a clear fondness for her family's huge 4.5-metre (15ft) reticulated python, Cher.

Emi, 8, was attempting to put the giant yellow-coloured reptile back in its vivarium after her father cleaned the tank out, but she struggled to lift it.

Fortunately, the heavy creature seemed to find its own way towards its home, so the 8-year-old could pat and stroke the pet as it did so.

Dad Ed Taoka said: "My daughter Emi was 4 when she started interacting with snakes and now she is 8 yrs old.

"Our pet snakes are called Sonny and Cher. Sonny is 7-years-old and about 15 foot. Cher is 6-years-old and around 16 foot

"My daughter and snakes have been together for most of their lives.

"Both snakes are very tame and gentle. They haven’t shown any defensive or aggressive behaviour towards us."

You can just see how relaxed the snakes are around her. It’s incredible. This is beautiful ❤️
  • That snake is beautiful. This video is proof of how gentle and sweet snakes can be if treated well.

Absolutely sweet, precious little angel. The pythons are actually kind to her.
  • Love and light to this little girl ❤️. Now with that being said, as a father myself I would seriously have reservations on this. But the world is changing where all living things are more about working together in the light. Great work on the video but keep ever vigilant of your daughter.

For those panicking in the comment section; don't be. Snake owners know that handling is done best when the snakes are well fed, they only need to eat once a week (and sometimes longer), meaning you have a good 5 days a week of happy snake handling. These snakes are clearly well fed and therefore just lazing around, and they love to sit against warm objects and nap (basically, they cuddle). When your house is relatively cool, like we can expect in the UK household being shown, gentle little girl is the perfect heat pad to lounge against. In fact, most snakes can be quite unsettled about being touched on the top of their head (as its a vulnerable spot for them) so the fact that they show little to no qualms against her doing so only proves how placid and laid back these snakes are. Personally I'm amazed with how the dad has taught his daughter to respect these animals to the point where snake snuggling while on the laptop is their new lap dog. Personally I would love to see her class reactions if she did this while in Zoom classes haha
  • She's a sweet little girl. I never thought that a snake could be gentle with kids.
