  • I know this is a old post , but just wanted to give a thumbs up . Just swapped my son's 04 Tahoe AWD to RWD with the 4x4 transfer case you recommended and he's finally back on the road . Thank you !

After completing the conversion my EXT drives like a brand new truck ! Better gas mileage , truck is quicker and drives like a Cadillac should . fairly easy job , I completed this in the drive way by myself over the weekend with straps and a floor jack .. i ran straps across the frame and used them to crank the transfer case off the ground enough so that i could get underneath and guide it into place with my arms/legs . floor jack was only used to remove the old TC and Front diff , when removing the front diff you do not need to unbolt pitman or idler arm , you can just loosen the steering box from the frame a bit to give the diff enough remove to come out .. the old transfer case , front differential , front drive shaft , and CV axles weighed 300lbs all together .

nice I was wondering about this because my front differential went ou

Im wanting to do this to my 06 Yukon Denali. Do you know if I can use any electronic np246 tcase from 99-06 or would I need a 03-06.
  • Is it possible to change the gears to split the power 40/60... in the 4wd case to switch from AWD to 2WD

Jess of All Trades Last week I pulled the front drive shaft thinking I would start doing the 2WD conversion a little at a time. After I pulled the shaft I tried to move the Escalade and it would not budge. i put the front shaft back in and everything was fine. Not knowing much about this can you tell me what would cause the Escalade not to move. I did not touch anything except the four bolts holding the drive shaft in place When searching for the NP246 transfer case I was talking to a transmission guy and told him about the truck being disabled when I pulled the drive shaft and he said it had something to do with the wheel speed sensors. When I tried to move the truck with the shaft out and it did not move I tried to put it back in gear it made a big noise like the sound of gears grinding. What is the relationship between the gears and the truck not moving. I was thinking that with the drive shaft out I would be able to drive tha truck to see if the vibration went away.

What if I wanna change it from all wheel drive to four-wheel-drive so I can turn it off and one is that doable 2004 GMC 6.0

@Jess of All Trades the push button has a lot more options as to where to plug in the wire that was on top of the transfer case, which one do you plug into on the push button case? Also, did you have a problem with your driveshaft being too short after the swap?, mine is lowered 2/4 and I think it’s going to make it bottom out on the case when I sit it back on the ground.

I have a 2008 Yukon Denali I want to do this to. Do you know if a 2008 Tahoe transfer case will bolt right up? And if so will I need to do anything else? I just want 2 wheel drive. Sick of all wheel drive
  • Are there any other conversions that have to be done like with the drive shaft, or is this just a bolt up and go remedy? Can you just remove the gears in the front dif? Pretty sure Jiffy lube ruined my dif by not tightening the fill screw when they tested the level because when my wife got back from a trip I started hearing a loping grinding noise and I seen fluid on my drive.

Jess of All Trades I have a 2008 Escalade EXT 6.2L AWD and I have been wanting to do this to get rid of the AWD because something in the t-case or front Dif or CV joints had a nasty vibration. From reading through all of the post below I believe that I would need to replace the T-case with a 4 wheel drive t-case and that would be the NP246 I would also need to remove the front driveshaft, Dif and CV joints. One of the post you stated that you would also need to replace the front hubs. I your video you did not do that. I it really necessary? I saw another video of a conversion to 2 wheel drive where the guy cut the spline out of the CV joint and turned it into a big pin. put the spline back in the hub and put the nut back on and tightened it up. would that work instead of new hubs. Please confirm the following. 2008 Cadillac Escalade EXT AWD conversion to full time 2 wheel drive. 1. Remove the CV Joints Left and Right 2. Cut the spline out of the CV joint so that it is a big threaded pin. Install back into the front hubs. 3. Remove the front driveshaft. 4. Remove the front Dif. 5. Remove the rear driveshaft. 6. Remove the AWD T-case. 7. Install NP246 T-case. 8. Install rear driveshaft. 9. Plug speed sensor wires into T-case. 10. Check and adjust fluid level as needed. 11. Drive Please let me know if I have left anything out or what I need to do differently.

Can you advise? I have a 2wd with a 5.3 and 4l60e. The 4l60 is toast. I have a extra 6.0. Correct me if I'm wrong but I should be able to drop a 6.0, 4l80 (2wd), and 6.0 computer and be ready to roll after a crossmember, and built drive shaft right?
  • @swervinrigg209
Thanks for the info ..If i changed the transfercase and only removed the front driveshaft will this work?? Or would i have to to remove the axles aswell?
  • @Thedirtvisor
Is there a shift motor on the awd t case I cant figure out why a 4x4 code is on the dash but it’s awd now 4x4
  • @squaddlife
Hey I know I'm late to the party but is the drive shaft the same size for this conversion?
  • Man I know this is an old video but I’m actually doing the same thing right now. So I install the np246 transfer case and now the transfer case is like stuck in neutral I’ve spun it at the encoder motor to swap for 4hi 4lo and 2wd but no power from transmission goes to the transfer case what could this be?
