I decided to convert my AWD Trailblazer SS to RWD! In this video I show you how I did the conversion for less than $100! I hope this video is helpful if you want to do this on your TBSS as well. It is very simple and is the most cost effective way to convert to RWD without swapping your transmission. See below for part information.

Transfer case: NVG226 (NP8) from base Trailblazer or Envoy

Transfer case fluid: Valvoline full synthetic transfer case fluid (must be compatible with GM Auto Trak), approx 2.5qts needed for drain and refill

Transfer case adapter gasket: ACDelco P/N - 15642511

Oh man this makes me miss mine so bad! I had ordered AWD and after few months was wishing I had 2wd.
  • Mine is allready like this , I might drop my front drive shaft for a little better mpg in the summer time!
  • @ZachBrewer
What did it take to get the front axles out? Do you just remove remove them on each side and then drain the front diff and you're good? Also is this transfer case only found in the 5.3 models, or is it the same in the 6 cylinder models as well? Great vid btw!
  • Just sold my 07 rwd buying awd I want to build the motor and have a good launch 🚀

Love the no bumper gap I will be doing mine this summer and the 2wd conversion ✌🏾
  • I am doing this to my 2006 Trailblazer. As I was thinking about things could you leave the front driveshaft in place?. If the transfer case is in 2WD the front driveshaft is not engaged and there would be no gears turning in the front differential. Thanks

Can you go into a little more detail on the process you used of removing the front CV’s?

I'm trying to get the TC into 2wd and am thinking Im missing something. Im turning the inner shaft all the way clockwise and it has some springback. It wont stay turned all the way and when I turn the input shaft the forward output shaft still spins. Any ideas?
  • @DemonzGarage
As far as power would you free up any or would it be the same as in the awd setup?

Will this same steps work on the 07-14 Escalade/Denali, from the selectable 2wd to 4wd off a 07-14 tahoe?
  • @CalicoRiot
If you haven't sold it, I'd like to buy the awd transfer case and front driveshaft. 😁 im building an awd 71 gmc c10, if not, it was worth a shot 🤙

Would this be the same process for a 05 Escalade?? Had Alltime AWD

    Does it matter if it’s 226 from a 5.3 or 4.2 trailblazer?
  • Question does the transfer case gotta come out of a 5.3 envoy motor or 4.2 envoy motor transfer case work the same
  • @juan1518
Hello, when you run it, do you set it to 1 and then Drive?
