This video discusses how we have been misled about serotonin, SSRIs, and LSD.
Serotonin is NOT the happy hormone like you've been told. In order to understand why, you need to understand the corruption behind the CIA and big pharmaceutical companies.

Very refined and well done. I'm here before you (hopefully) blow up. You're spreading the good word.
  • Amazing cover and insight of SSRIs guys. Another reason I think some ppl have a perceived benefit from SSRIs is the placebo effect. For some, it makes them feel 'looked after' and this is enough comfort to make them feel better than without it initially. Unfortunately as time goes on more serotonin isn't going to benefit them.

Knew about the MKUltra and lsd stuff, but not the stuff about the SSRIs...Nice job on the video
  • One of the things that creeps me out is not just the increase in suicidal thoughts but the ability to go through with it and a lack of care for others. My auntie was depressed, probably on a bunch of pills, and she hung herself near the front door from the second floor of the house. Her kids could have found her and I don't believe for one second she was the type of person to do that. It was like her ability to think about other people was stolen from her. Another example would be the Welsh town where so many young people hung themselfs. Or Sylvia Path... I'm sure she was given something that made her think sticking her head on the oven was actually a swell idea.

Medical student with a particular interest in neuroscience here, almost everything said in this video is either inaccurate, oversimplified or blatantly wrong. First of all LSD is not a “serotonin antagonist” it actually agonises all serotonin receptors - including indeed certain autoreceptors that decrease firing rate of serotonin neurons, however post-synaptic receptors are still being activated by the LSD molecule itself even if serotonin isnt being released. The psychedelic effects come from agonism at 5HT2A receptors, when LSD binds to them it activates a specific intracellular pathway that the endogenous agonist - serotonin - is unable to. To present LSD’s effects as a result of antagonism to serotonin which = thinking inside the box is beyond far fetched from what actually happens. Secondly you’re right that serotonin is not a happy chemical the same way dopamine for one is the brain’s reward centre but it’s been shown that abnormalities with serotonin neurotransmission - not necessarily a dysfunction - can trigger symptoms of mental illnesses. There are several different serotonin receptors - most G-protein coupled and others ion channel-dependent - and all of them have vastly different effects. For instance the 5HT2C limits dopamine transmission and also causes anxiety, dysphoria and appetite loss. Chronic treatment with SSRIs tends to downregulate this receptor’s expression in some cases thus possibly alleviating some of these symptoms. Post-synaptic 5HT1A receptors are involved in the release of oxytocin - the love hormone - as well as in reducing anxiety and irritability. 5HT2A receptors when activated by profound increases in serotonin such as seen in for instance MDMA users seem to elicit positive mood and sociability. Other serotonin receptors dont even affect mood and are just important for regulating other physiological responses like temperature, appetite and inflammation. The increased suicidality seen in Prozac is mostly related to the initial weeks of treatment when the brain responds to the drug by reducing serotonin transmission until the autoreceptors desentitize. There is also no evidence whatsoever that serotonin is in any way related to Parkinson’s Disease, a condition generally accepted to be caused by oxidative stress destroying dopamine neurons. Overall, the serotonin system is indeed very complex and poorly understood and I agree SSRIs shouldnt be given out to ppl, especially kids and teens, the way they are. But this video’s oversimplification is just as bad as that of the big pharma’s.
