We will be eating tons of local food & STREET FOOD from morning until night! Although I've never visited Sri Lanka, it kind of has a special place in my heart. My late father, who was a radio specialist in the British Royal Navy, was on his aircraft carrier, HMS "Searcher", on his way to Japan in 1945 as part of a huge Allied invasion fleet. On the way, the atom bombs fell on Hiroshima and Nagasaki and the war was over. The new orders were to visit various places in the Far East, collect various Aussies, New Zealanders, Brits, Canadians, Americans, Indians etc, who had been prisoners-of-war of the Japanese, and assist in getting them home and administering medical aid to those suffering from malnutrition and mistreatment. Well, his voyage consisted of visits to Rangoon/Yangon in Burma/Myanmar, Madras/Chennai in India and Trincomalee in Ceylon/Sri Lanka. He loved the trip, and taught me respect for other nations and their traditions, religions...and food. He'd always speak with longing about "Trinco" and its friendly people and delicious, spicy food.
