The limit of 300 pins on the map was not subtle it was life-changing
  • @Tobunari
When you upgrade from a Great Fairy, in BotW the upgraded item would be placed on the end of the armor inventory. In TotK it stays in the slot that it originated in.

I do believe the enemies have drowning animations in botw. It just required them to be in a neutral state, which rarely ever occured.
  • It’s interesting how many of the changes serve to amplify the theme of verticality in the game: the fall damage threshold has even been increased. Link falls faster, etc. it’s neat
  • I think the reason they gave more pins and stamps is probably how vast and bigger the game is since you have 3 layers of the game. Sky, Surface, Depths. Also did you knew that you can use Ascend below a Talus to get on top of him?

2 Things I noticed that you didn't mention: 1. When you skip the cooking animation, It fades to black and comes back a lot quicker. A small thing, but I usually have big cooking sessions in bulk to last me a couple hours, and this feels really nice 2. Enemies that used to pop up at random do so a lot less. Yiga soldiers, chu-chus, stalkoblins, oktoroks, keese, it was so annoying just peacefully walking around and then these guys came up. They still are in TotK, but it is a lot more rare.

I love that they changed the mushroom thing! they are 90% water so it only makes sense for them to appear a lot heavier. a mushroom half the size of link would weight POUNDS
  • @ShockMicro
Now, this isn't necessarily subtle, but THEY FINALLY LET YOU FREEZE WATER WITH ICE ARROWS! I was so sad when this didn't work in Breath of the Wild, though i'd say it's understandable considering the existence of Cryonis. Tears of the Kingdom arrives, and not only can ice arrows freeze water, but water can solidify lava!

I'd love some more side by side comparisons of locations in BotW. Things like panoramic views, the (former) locations of divine beasts, chasm and cave entrances, etc.

One thing I noticed is when using Magnesis in BOTW you were able to throw things around, or slam metal things into enemies on the ground. In TOTK if you try to throw something around with Ultrahand it will immediately stop midair for a split second before falling straight down.
  • The fact that Link is more capable in this game would make sense story wise as it has been a couple years since the events of Breath of the Wild.
  • @VaultLink
With things being struck by lightning it isn't smoke, it's steam from the object being heated while still being wet from the rain and beginning to steam like stepping near a fire or into a hot cave when wet Plus a bonus thing I noticed unrelated Not only can you catch Star Fragments and Dragon Parts out of the air(and directly off the Dragon before they fall in the case of Dragon Parts) when Star Fragments hit the ground they throw up a small dust cloud when far away from you

In terms of the fire animations, I'd assume they did that in Breath of the Wild because it was also supposed to run on the Wii U. Tears of the Kingdom is Switch only, so they probably had more freedom to use higher fidelity effects/graphics

With the ladder drop test, also interesting is that botw Link takes fall damage while totk Link doesn't. Those 7-9 years really helped him with leg days

One of my favourite changes in TotK is the ability to remove the GUI when looking at photos you've taken (also the increased storage). There were a lot of photos I took in BotW that I wanted on the Switch itself but couldn't have without Link standing in the way or the massive borders of the Sheikah Slate, so it's great to be able to take a clean screenshot from your gallery. Plus, if you run out of space on the Purah Pad, deleting the photos isn't as much of a problem.

I’ve quickly learned how the Recall ability is actually really useful despite me thinking how confusing it was at the start. Rewinding the blocks of the Flux Constructs’ 2nd attack pattern lets you instantly reach the weak point, rewinding Talus boulders instantly stuns them, and if you have the reaction time you can rewind bomb barrels back at whatever threw them.
  • @DrOmni
I don't think the smoke when things get struck by lightning is due to the lightning itself. It's because it evaporates the rainwater. The same effect can be seen if you get wet in the Eldin region when the high temperature turns the water to steam.

Something to note with canceling a dive to enter bullet time: if you're doing that new dive that was added in this game specifically, you can enter bullet time without canceling it and it uses a completely different animation.
  • @Schizm1
BotW was a crossgen game so it makes sense that TofK is improved in some aspects. Anyway - I love stylized graphics so both games are simply glorious!
  • I was surprised when I figured out that you can also draw a bow while skydiving and it even keeps your legs back
