As someone who has no rated levels but loves creating this video is so real. I love creating but I'm really not that good at all. Instead of being mad and jealous of people who are successful, I get inspired by them, learn things from them, and wanna be like them. These hate comments really trigger me because no one who puts time and effort into making good levels deserve it.

A very relatable video I must admit. I remember when I got my second rate and there was a lot of hate in the comments. I asked in the comments what exactly was wrong with the level, but I got disliked and I was told never to build anything again. After my first epic level, I was very motivated to build more, but I wanted to do something very simple this time. After this level got a feature, people said that I wasn't trying, that I made a boring level. When 2.2 came out, hope and motivation returned a bit and I tried making a platform level. I really liked it and was proud of it, but my expectations were greatly disappointed because it didn't get what I wanted, and people in the comments immediately started insulting my level and me. Now, I don't really know what I'm doing and how to do it. I'm trying to muster the motivation to do anything. Wish me luck.

people are really not even trying to hide their envy. it's so stupid.

I agree 100% percent with the comment part. I got so much hate on my recent epic lvl and most of people in comments don't make constructive comments

You totally forgot a very important point: Branding. When you make a lot of levels in a certsin style, they will look so similar that the players will easily recognize you for your creating style, you can also see split and dubstep as examples of this. The problem lies when people try to force you to make something original when you start doing the same style, but when you do your own recognizable style and make a LOT of levels using it, the same people that begged for you to make something original will hate on you for creating the same thing over and over again. Its so frustrating to see comments like that when creators have their OWN style and therefore they have the right to milk whatever they want. I saw it on split, then croco, then yun, and the list goes on and on. And also, that "mod bias" and people complaining about unknown creators getting harder standards is pure bs. My rated level has decorations that are copied 1-1 from youtune tutorials. Yes, almost all of the deco, bg and air deco was made from tutorials, but i still got a rate, even when a mod sent it for feature hours before. So yeah, that is pretty much debunked since forever. Well, here goes my wall text. Great video btw!!!

I see this situation the same way, people think of creators as people who just create for creator points and know it will get rated cuz rob knows them more, but it's not true, they create because it's actually really fun, if they had no reason to, their levels would simply not look good because they have no reason to create other than the thought of creator points in mind, the 4 levels I have made were all for fun and I enjoyed making them so much, even if none of my levels I ever post get rated, I'm just happy because it was a way of expressing my self and I had and will have a lot of fun creating.

Thank you for this video. As a creator and a player I can agree that hating for no bigger reason doesn't help either side. It's just a game after all.
  • @hcardio
Dude, I completely agree. I dont make levels too much, but I love creating. It infuriates me so much seeing people hating levels for seemingly no reason when the creators are just trying to enjoy the game. The negativity that people spread to some creators is so unnecessary. We are all trying to enjoy the game in our own way so there is no need for those people to feel hate or jealousy towards them. Creators put time into their levels and it's a shame people ignore their efforts and spread hate towards them. We should all focus on the quality of the level and not how much creator points they have. Great video, Ausk I really enjoyed it.

My number one creating rule is : if you don’t have fun building a level, don’t push yourself too hard, maybe try another day when you get the motivation back.
  • @Crysticai
something interesting i noticed with my two rated levels is that the second one got way more criticism than the first, almost as if people expected to perfect my creating skills after getting creator points. that is simply just not how it works lol, seriously improving at creating will take more than one or two levels
  • @cyanflower
I'm still surprised that How To Adventure got quite a beautiful amount of love and good criticism (which has led to some level updates which improved it) when it got featured (I honestly expected rob to just rate it but both feature and second place on the first page for almost an entire day for my first ever rated level in the almost 10 years of me playing this game was so awesome), but yeah, it's also been pretty full of some useless hate comments, and one I straight up removed which hoped I'll end up becoming "another Advy" this isn't a joke btw this was an actual comment on the level at one point. Not taking it seriously of course lol but how does one publish that horrible of a comment without thinking twice?
  • @sirdany
I must admit that when i got my first creator points i've had the feeling of making people not enjoy my level cause maybe for their gameplay, their decorations, and i felt so bad at the time, and this happened for hate comments, then some friends helped me to go throught with it. But still, even some comments can hurt someone's feelings, they are still words and words could hurt even more than weapons. I also want to thank you for making this video explaining the situation <3
  • @EverzC
i also agree with this, people don't leave any constructive criticism when i post a level and just hate on it sometimes. i don't let it get to me though since i love creating so i liked how you described this whole controversy thing. you've earned my sub and like, keep up the great work man :)
  • @divroooooooo
i feel like i cant make anything without seeing what other people make and becoming demotivated immediately anymore
  • @DubstepFanatic1
Yo! Awesome video Ausk! Everything you touched on was very well explained. Hope more people start to change even if it's just a little. Keep up the great work! <3

I've always hated how a lot of these players that do this assume amount of quality = amount of effort. Seriously people need to stop crapping on levels that aren't literally perfect to them. It often isn't people that have created at all, they are just spoilt royally (never having a reality check). Will also say that this jealousy people are having is probably gonna get worse, since rated levels are constantly getting more rare to achieve and therefore more artificially valued. I gotta be honest, it was a terrible idea to lock an achievement behind it. I imagine this would have been way less of a problem (by a ton). It's not just young people that get jealous enough to do this, it's just "Most of the GD community + valued thing = people jealous for that thing" Granted Rob could let elder mods help as well (with rates, since I assume he trusts them enough) to lower the value of a rate and therefore the jealousy. Rob could also make some sort of disclaimer regarding hate comments BUT that could cause it to become worse if people take it the wrong way. It's not the best situation but what is? Doubt it'll ever get better naturally, it's practically ruining itself.

Not to be the hater, but I don't have a problem with simple levels getting rated. I have a problem with buggy and unoptimized pieces of trash that are poorly built, janky, have hz issues, gameplay that only works half the time, all for it to get rated 3 fewer stars than it should. As a stargrinder, I want rated levels to be based on decoration and gameplay. Just because a level is pretty doesn't mean it's rate worthy. Just a month ago I played an 7 star after it was rated and there was a LITERAL SECRET WAY within the first 20%. It's clear that unplaytested levels are being sent when if the mods just read the comments and saw over 50 people saying "secret way" they'd know something was up.
