Lost me sweet beautiful yellow lab Maggie yesterday. Sudden and tragic. Long may you run.

You folks that didn’t get to grow up in the late 60’s and the 70’s have no idea what you missed what glorious times they were.
-
this song is on my father's headstone where he's buried. long may he run.

I always think of my dogs and horses who have left this life for a better one. Their hearts are truly as brilliant as chrome. "Long may you run" til we can see each again.

My Mini Cooper S finally gave itself up a few weeks ago. I couldn't afford to get it repaired. The price of a new engine and the labour would have been more than I paid for car when I first bought it. I took my grandson with me to the garage where it was waiting to be destroyed. On the way to saying our goodbyes, my grandson, Jake, said "Granddad, I've got £2,000 in the bank, can I pay to have it fixed?" I can still feel the lump in my throat as I type. When we got to the garage he was in tears, and I was fighting mine back. I pulled out the permanent marker pen I'd took with me, and on the bonnet of my beautiful car I wrote: "With your chrome heart shining/In the sun/Long may you run". We find our love in different ways. But it's still love. And it always will be.

Long May You Run was a bit of an interesting Neil Young album, as it was sort of a Buffalo Springfield reunion (a collaboration between Stephen Stills and Neil Young, and credited to the Stills-Young Band.) It also has some great guitar work from Stills and Young on it.

I always try to say long may you run instead of goodbye. Don't always do but try. Thanks Neil and Long may you run Neil!

We actually had this song playing on the radio in the garage when the towtruck brought in my friend's '68 Camaro after we crashed it. It was caused by a bad joint/bolt in the steering assembly which was an after market one, a production error from factory, a joint snapped resulting in loss of steering while we were running down a mountain pass. We just overhauled the 327 ourselves weeks before the crash. When we were standing next to it on that mountain pass we actually thought she was a goner. We used to race her on friday nights together with my Ford Capri since we were 19, took our gf's to the beach in it, went to car meetings all over Europe in it, so much memories. We spend the next 5 years every other weekend restoring her, it cost a small fortune but three weeks ago week she passed final inspection and is now back on the road again. He almost cried when he heard that 327 roaring down the road when I dropped her off at his place.

Australia here. I believe this song was written about Neil's first car and his last girlfriend. Whenever I listen to it I think of my old blue and white '63 Chev Belair, 4 door that I had in '83 and Donna, the girl I should have married.

We’ve been through some things together With trunks of memories still to come We found things to do in stormy weather Long may you run. Although these changes have come With your chrome heart shining in the sun Well, it was back in blind river in 1962 When I last saw you alive But we missed that shift on the long decline Maybe the beach boys have got you now With those waves singing caroline no Rollin’ down that empty ocean road Gettin’ to the surf on time.

My faithful companion crossed his final bridge and now runs in the tall grass as he waits for me there on the other side. Long may you run, Mr Max, long may you run.
