Switch to a flasher with fin and lures that create their own action. That way you don't have to go so fast. Resi coho can be caught constantly at 40 to 50 ft. I just use dropper weight. Yesterday I used kokanee rod with 8oz dropper and 8inch flasher

Great video, thanks! I'm trying to get my kayaks prepped for this year. Last year I just started and am learning how to fish the Sound near the Olympia/Tacoma area.
  • Hey Captain Narwal do you ever do guided trips? Great video, thinking of trying a downrigger, thank you for the content.

Subscribed. Thanks, that was a great overview for new kayak anglers in the Sound.

Saw you headed out as I was headed in. Thanks for the video!
  • Nice adventure my friend. Enjoyed it! Liked and subbed from a fellow kayaker. Stay safe and connected brother!

Subbed, cool content. I actually wanted to head out myself, do you have recommendations on where to launch my kayak / quiet areas in the sound to fish?
  • What are the flags you have attached to your net? I like the idea!

what size line are you using? I didn't catch that in the video?
  • @rayz671
Is that the kastking 20 line counter? Just got one and it's so big. Returning it and getting the size 10. Even tho it has the smaller handle, 20 lb drag is enough for me.

For us without downriggers, would you say a 5oz cannon ball weight or a dipsy diver?
  • "Thanks for sharing! I'm still concerned about the impact of the downrigger on my kayak, so I'll stick with free weights this season. Do you have any recommendations? :)

Is Coho fishing open in area 10? I can't seem to find it on the the washington fish and wildlife website..Thanks,
  • @chengdavid6197
It is possible if you tell me the kayak you are using? Thank you.
  • @Losingsince
Use a diver. It's what I do from my Hobie and I've caught all of my resident Coho on a Double Deep Six
