As wildfires ravage parts of California, firefighters are facing challenging conditions in their efforts to contain the blazes. The Nixon Fire in Riverside County has already consumed over 2,700 acres and evacuation orders are in place for affected areas.

Meanwhile, the Park Fire in the state's Central Valley has become the fifth-largest wildfire in Californian history, surpassing 360,000 acres.

“Right now, to my knowledge, it's the largest fire in California, and it could be in the nation right now with its acreage, right? It's over 360,000 acres," said Cal Fire Public Information Officer Sergio Arellano.

“I have not personally seen a fire grow so fast in such a short amount of time. There was a lot of fuel in the area where the fire started, and coupled with the winds, where we've seen a little rise in [the] wind over the previous fire seasons, I think it was just the right recipe,” Arellano added.
