I am surprised the porygon line wasn't mentioned. It's shiny is a reference to the inverted colors of photo negatives. Being Polygons, an early form of computer animation, it makes sense. The invert colors option used to be an editing filter on MS Paint as well.

Ting-lu's colors a based on red sandstone cliffs, made from layers of sand and clay. The shiny is based on the much rarer blue sandstone, which is layered sand and a different sediment, not sure what it is, but the blue-grey colors and layers are spot on for the shiny colors of Ting-lu

I should remind people that Lugia’s shiny colors are inspired by a shrine to Ryujin, a Shinto God of the Sea.

I think Solgaleo turning red is based off of a star; either a red giant or a red dwarf star

I just realized the Treasures of Ruin switch colors with eachother for their shinies: Wo-Chien gets Chi-Yu's red, Ting-Lu gets Wo-Chien's green, Chien-Pao gets Ting-Lu's brown, and Chi-Yu gets Chien-Pao's light blue.

Black Panthers don't just have to be Leopards. Any member of the Panthera class of cats ( Leopards, Lions, Tigers, Snow Leopards, and Jaguars) can be a Black Panther.

Venomoth’s shiny coloring is based on it’s japanese name “Morphon”. It’s shiny coloring is blue making it resemble the Morpho butterfly

Klawf being blue probably has more to do with blue crabs than blue lobsters, like the Chesapeake Blue Crab. It's not a rare species by any stretch, but there are fewer blue crab species than red ones. I think another possibility for Mimikyu's shiny is the association between black-and-white film and horror movies, being that it's a Ghost type. I still think the nod to Red and Blue is possible, and that it's shiny could have multiple inspirations.

The animal you showed when you were talking about black leopards was a black jaguar. The second pic was a leopard.

All the shinies in the first few generations just shifted each pokemon's color palette by one. None of them were custom designed to look like anything special. Anything they might resemble is just coincidence.

I accidentally KO'd a shiny Rattatta in Soul Silver this morning while EV training... I was in muscle memory and also taking a BIG SIP of my coffee and the cup blocked my DS so by the time I looked to see, I'd already tapped the move... RIP, Cheezers
