For the past 999 episodes of the "BiggerPockets Real Estate Podcast," we’ve heard stories from investors who have achieved financial freedom through rental property investing. However, when we started this podcast in 2013, it was a different time. The housing market had crashed just years earlier, prices were still recovering, and cash flow was abundant in many markets. But things have changed, and now we’re changing, too. Welcome to our 1,000th episode and your first look at the new "BiggerPockets Real Estate Podcast."

We’re getting back to the basics, sharing investor strategies that work in today’s market and showcasing the data investors need to know now so they can reach financial freedom faster. Our first guest on this new wealth-building journey is Scott Trench, CEO of BiggerPockets and rental property investor.

Today, we ask Scott, “Is financial freedom still possible through real estate, and if so, how do investors achieve it in this housing market?” Scott shares what both beginner and experienced investors must do now to reach financial freedom, who should even be investing in the first place, and the best beginner investment EVERYONE listening to this should be taking full advantage of.

Ready to start building your path to financial freedom today? The "BiggerPockets Real Estate Podcast" is the best place to be!

We also want to thank David Greene and Rob Abasolo for their massive contributions—David Greene for nearly 7 years as a host and co-host of the podcast, and Rob Abasolo for many of the past 250 episodes. They did a fantastic job building on the foundations poured by our Founder, Josh Dorkin, and Brandon Turner and continued the work of changing millions of lives.

While we had hoped that Rob and David would continue to stay on as hosts in this rotational capacity, we completely understand their desire to move on to their next adventures, and wish them success in those endeavors, knowing that they will continue to change many lives with their thought leadership. We wish them the best of luck in their next endeavors.

Regardless of who is hosting or who isn't, love the focus on getting back to the roots and making sure to discuss investing in today's climate. I hear too many podcasts (not just this one) who have guests that only discuss how they made millions but started back in 2015, which is a much different climate than now, and don't focus enough on investing TODAY and how to make it work.

Dang… not how I envisioned the 1000th episode of my favorite podcast to go. Don’t get me wrong, Dave has great things to say and is a great host that provides lots of great information. But I get my dose of Dave with On the Market. Without David and Rob, it’s going to be hard to keep listening consistently. I don’t think this podcast before was at all a “get rich quick” or “having investors sell things”. Seeing Greene was probably the best segment this podcast had, and the humor both David and Rob brought will be missed. Really hope they arn’t done for good. Starting to think they weren’t on PTO lol
  • No Dave and Rob?!?! What the hell, no sign off, no farewell, like all the intel employees this morning waking up to a your fired email …. Man. I loved Dave and Rob, I pull up YouTube on my lunch to check the new mortgage Monday and I get this for the 1,000 episode … ugh
  • So amped for this change! I have to admit I've been a pretty loyal OTM follower for the past 3-4 years but have not been such a regular listener to the OG show but damn this change sounds amazing and I am very excited to come back over in addition to the OTM episodes. Big Congrats Dave! Hope you have an epic sandwich to celebrate!
  • Wow! We don't get a goodbye from David? 😮 & what about Rob? Hope we get to see them again Love On the Market but be clear the panel makes the show great not 1 person
  • I double-checked my calendar to make sure I didn’t miss April 1st! I was quickly on board though because of such a good discussion. Great to hear more from Scott and his perspective. Speaking more on financial freedom and the real estate roadmap for doing so was a great framework. Would love to hear more content like this. I very much enjoy when you guys have different opinions as well such as the 'boots on the ground' vs 'best market' discussion. Today’s conversation was refreshing and insightful, but I do have to give a huge thank you to David Greene. He has my utmost respect, and thank you for the metric-ton of real estate and financial knowledge that you have taught me. Looking forward to hearing more about this change and if we still get to hear from our superstar Rob as the co-host! Here’s to the next chapter—keep up the fantastic work, BP team, and keep on growing! 🚀👏

Glad to hear this shakeup. I have not listened to the biggerpockets reliably since Brandon left and opted to the listen to the real estate rookies and money shows. They were easier to listen to and felt more actionable. No offense to Rob but his meteoric rise into real estate is not a realistic tactic in today’s market (Airbnb, etc) and David seemed tired of repeating himself over and over again (I understand why). Being from California, I need shows that provide realistic strategies given the current economic environment and surprisingly enough those came from the real estate rookies and money podcast. I appreciate all the work from everyone on BP and the constant innovation 🎉
  • Imo, BP Real Estate Rookie PC has some of the best content for beginners as well as expert investors looking to expand their knowledge base into different real estate arenas.
  • @MAD-DUKE
Wow shakeup! Can we get a BP Drama Episode where they explain what happened here? I've always been a huge fan of Dave Meyer but when Brandon left it was different, so something tells me something happening here. Also a fan of David and Rob... Even though at the time I was rooting for Dave as co-host, and was thrilled with the new podcast that started up there.
  • Dave is great but it’s all just data and analytics. Need real world examples of investing. Brandon was a huge motivation for me and Dave and Rob carried that torch, felt like rob represented the small investor well. Will continue to listen but this is sad news Also was looking forward to a major milestone like ep 1000 having Brandon and Josh with Dave and even Mindy and the OG’s. This was a major let down
  • @AbiMuy
Whaaaattt?!?!?! Nothing against you Dave, but David and Robert have charismatic personality...
  • @Degengeo
Congrats Dave 🎉! You got this 💰 Ignore the negativity and prove yourself, we know you have a lot of knowledge to share!
  • @AaronAntis
Eesh. Gonna miss David and Rob. Not super stoked with this decision, to be honest. Love Dave for sure though!
  • @yornoc1
Change is good! I'm psyched for 2.0.
  • @reasonfeel
Is David leaving altogether? No farewell episode? Get the OGs Brandon and David to do a last episode for old times sake. My guess David teams up with Brandon again?
  • Dave Meyer is great when he doesn’t talk about mind numbing macro market data. Micro trumps the macro. I don’t care about macro market data. I care about learning about real estate principles. As constructively as I can state this, you should consider dumping the bigger news segment on Fridays and swapping it with something that is relevant and not boring. Again, Dave Meyer is great. But no one is as interested in market statistics as he is and he deep dives too far into the boringness. At least track your ratings and see if I’m right. Market news podcasts have all been straight up duds in my opinion. Not related to Dave Meyer, but on the podcasts where you interview guests, I would consider not asking a thousand questions about their “why” or their life story. I don’t care about their life stories. I care about learning about the tactics they used to get to there they are at. Anyways. I miss David and rob already. I do like Dave Meyer though so I hope BP continues to be a good podcast.
  • @angelo-001
Amazing to be here for the 1k episode. You all have changed my families lives and beliefs. Thank you! 🙏
  • @stevend481
Scott is smart guy. I remember his first episode back in the day
  • David is gone and what about Rob??? I listened to the podcast to learn about real estate investmenting but i enjoyed the show because of all the laughs. Sorry I'm very disappointed in the host shakeup...
  • My only request. Please don't make this show a snoze fest. Personality counts.
