The bit about Taiwan makes me so happy, I’m sometimes afraid of telling mainland Chinese that I’m taiwanese just in case they get really mad and start calling me weird names like traitor and stuff, but honestly Taiwan in all consideration, should be a country, it has everything to be a country but it’s just mainland China wouldn’t let go of this island

Another consideration is whether the UK is one country or four. It is one unitary sovereign state and often counted as one in these lists. But the comprising nations are definitely thought of as countries (as opposed to states or prefectures) with their own national identities, culture, languages and sports teams.
