Animated weather-satellite imagery, Australia, 2009 bushfires

We had extremely hot weather on the last days of January in 2009 in Victoria, Australia. That made me interested in weather satellite images which I collected from the BOM web site from January 27th - January 29th. I put them together into this animated clip. About a week later I recorded 50 degrees Celsius (122 degrees Fahrenheit) in Moorabbin (Melbourne, Vic). It was Saturday February 7th, 2009. Such a heat and strong wind caused one of the biggest bushfire disasters in Australia ever. It took 173 lives and over 400 hundred people were injured.
Coincidentally, Leonard Cohen happened to be on his Australian leg of the 2009 World Tour. On January 5th and 10th he held concerts in Melbourne and donated $200,000 to aid victims of the bushfires.
