Fun fact: Yoda beating R2D2 with his stick in empires strikes back is canonically Yoda’s Final battle. And even after 900 years, Yoda is still victorious.

Can't wait for "Ranking the Star Wars Movies by their 'I have a bad feeling about this' usage"
  • R2 staying with the ship is actually one of my favorite Star Wars moments. Anakin tells R2 to stay with the ship and then he never comes back. R2 never sees his friend again. This ties perfectly into Empire Strikes Back when Luke tells R2 to stay with the ship and he’s like “Uh, no. That’s not happening again!” It’s so in character for him and sad at the same time to think that’s why he followed Luke. He wasn’t going to loose another master/friend again.

15:58 there is actually a dialogue in the book version where C3PO asks R2 what is going on (with order 66) and R2 responds "I don't know, Anakin doesn't talk to me anymore"

Really gotta give Schaff the award for most oddly specific yet creative Star Wars ranking videos out there .
  • The hardest part of Schaff’s job isn’t making videos, it’s finding every single way he can rank the Star Wars movies without ranking the Star Wars movies
  • @holomi2498
Next up : Ranking every Star Wars movies is by their use of the Wilhelm scream
  • R2-D2 is peak character design. He doesn't even have a recognizable face nor does he talk in a way the audience can understand, but he manages to convey so much personality, character and attitude. Not bad for a beeping tripod soda can.
  • @zantosender3348
The Revenge of the Sith novelization has exactly what you want. C-3PO asks R2 what's going on right before the march on the temple and R2 says, "I don't know. Anakin doesn't talk to me anymore."

Star Wars Movies ranked by their R5-D4 usage 1. A new hope

9:51 The Queen-to-Senator thing makes a lot of sense—the position of Queen was an elected one, and the Naboo traditionally elected prodigious young girls to the post. The Queen ruled her planet (democratically), but when the monarch reached her term limit, she would step down and usually took another position in the government. Padmé had a rare opportunity: the previous senator from Naboo (Palpatine) was elected to Chancellor, which meant her planet’s post was open. A Senator would represent her planet to the wider galactic community. Who better to represent a planet’s needs than its former ruler, especially someone who endured an illegal invasion AND united two separate species on her homeworld?

My headcanon is that the handmaiden disguised as the queen specifically sent Padme to clean R2 because it was funny. Like if you had the opportunity to ask the literal queen of a planet to scrub down a dirty droid and she had no real means of protesting without blowing her cover, would you not take that opportunity? I bet the handmaidens all immediately started laughing their asses off about it as soon as everyone else left the room.

R2 is really key to Star Wars. George has stated that Star Wars is a recap of the Galaxy from R2, which really makes me love this little droid more.
  • @Karver26
I love how he canonically swears through the whole saga according to C3PO
  • @JulianRWR1
You forgot to mention, when the were filming empire, the guy who was inside our cute little trashcan almost died when they forgot to take him out of the suit and left him outside while they were filming the hoth scenes!
  • @liamenn
my headcannon for why R2 can't fly in the original trilogy is that rocket fuel is expensive and the rebels didn't have the funds to keep him stocked up
  • @poatocat9534
I think a “ranking Star Wars movies by their lightsaber usage” video would be interesting. Examining how they evolved through the films and which movie uses them best both practically and thematically.
  • Fun Fact: R2-D2 is often called "Arturito" (Little Arthur) in Latin America because of how similar they sound.
  • @Aidan_004
26:39 Knuckles in Sonic Adventure 2 fits this specific trope perfectly. He really just randomly pops out of a manhole halfway through the hero campaign and decides to join up with gang.
