Pitching Man: Satchel Paige Defying Time | FULL MOVIE | Satchel Paige Baseball Documentary

Published 2024-07-24
Pitching Man celebrates the life of baseball’s most enduring legend; Satchel Paige was the single most important player in the old Negro Baseball Leagues in an era when baseball was segregated. He was an extraordinary athlete and a genuine original who played the game for forty years on makeshift rural sandlots and in major league ballparks against the best in the game. In 1948 he triumphed in the major leagues as a 42-year old rookie and solidified his position as an American hero and confirmed his status as one of the greats of the game. Paige became the first Negro Leaguer to win induction into baseball’s Hall of Fame. His is a compelling story that illustrates much about the times and the plight of Black Americans. This documentary remembers a true baseball immortal and paints a vivid portrait of American Society in transition.

When I was a little kid learning to love baseball, I'd heard about Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, and listening to Dizzy Dean say Satchell's the greatest pitcher he'd ever saw

Shame on me and shame on the baseball oligarchy. I had no idea about Paige's time with St. Louis and (AAA) Miami. Im a 40 year baseball fan and its not even reported that he pitched in 1949 for Cleveland.

I was in India in a lower middle class home 10 years ago. Guess what, they didn't know what their birthday either. Birthdays can be a cultural thing. Moreover, many births were at home and not in a hospital. If you don't think poor whites didn't experience some of the same issues, you are missing part of history.

Satchel Page was an incredible hero. He accomplished so much and I heard stories about him from my Cherokee grandfather. We Cherokees rooted for those of other minorities. He was certainly a MAN that I admired from boyhood on. Great dovumentary, thank you very much for uploading this wonderful piece about a legend.👍🪶🪶🤙
