IMPORTANT 14:17 if your computer does not ask for permission to change the file type it means your file extensions are hidden. You must go to file explorer options, click on the view tab, and scroll down to Hide extensions for known file types and UNCHECK IT. I'm sure it happened to someone else. I found myself rather confused when for whatever reason my computer decided to keep the format as (.txt)
  • An absolute godsend of a video. I came in so nervous having never downloaded any mods for anything and this tutorial put all my nerves to ease. Thank you so much!

there's something to be mentioned about the x86 vs x64 files. Telling them to look at what their program files folder says ex: (program filesx86) isn't a good way to inform them because they can be running 64 bit windows and still have a program files x86 folder. that will lead to confusion and make them download the x86 file instead of the x64 file that they actually need. Best way for them to find out what they have is to go into windows settings and look at the system tab. There it will state which OS they are running.

You have saved my life by making this video! I hate downloading mods normally because I can never get them to work and it gets so overwhelming but you explained this so comprehensively that it took all the stress out of the process. Thank you so so much!!

Mate, literally a life saver. Its so so good to see a recent mod list with up to date info, really keeps the community of this old game alive
  • One of the best tutorials I’ve ever seen. Before I found this video, my game had many issues but were all quickly fixed thanks your video; I cannot thank you enough for fixing my favorite game and improving it. I hope more people come across this video like I did.

As of July 30, 2023; the load order has be Core011 - Jonny's Guitar NVSE before Core010 - Unofficial Patch Plus, at least according to the Nexus Mod Site. This is a terrific guide and as stated before, a Godsend for those us reloading and playing Fallout New Vegas!

It's crazy how much goes into modding these old games but it's definitely worth it. Thanks for making it so easy to follow

Hey man, I wanted to say that your guide has changed my New Vegas experience tremendously. I was able to get 30 mods after following your guide, and my game literally hasn't crashed 1 time after about 16 hours of playing, and its still going strong. Everything works perfectly. This guide is fantastic.
  • @Svedvirk
Going to start my second modded playthrough tomorrow using this! thanks for being so thorough and offering this knowledge for free!
  • I have never watched such an easy to follow tutorial before. Thank you for making this video, you are a real lifesaver.
  • @BenniRoR
Such a great guide. I was originally following Gopher's awesome guide, but that is two years old now and some mods have been updated/changed. This helped a lot.

For all the 2024 people: when the JIP LN NVSE Plugin says that it requires nvse 6.something or higher, it means that, since 2021 (release date of this guide), nvse has updated, and is currently at ver 6. all you have to do is click the "xNVSE v6.something" orange button, download the 7zip file (with winrar) and do the same proceedure as NVSE ver 5 in the guide :)
  • @stewdad11
Its nice to see a updated mod install guide. A lot of the video guides out there are from years ago and they work fine its just always nice to see more recent updated one. Appreciate the work you put into this!!
  • Tip with NVSE for any noobs like me that might have this problem lol. I already had vortex downloaded and for some reason Vortex wasn't registering NVSE as a mod, so I had to drag and drop the complete NVSE from WinRAR into the mod menu to get it to load. Hope this helps anyone!
  • @memecrusader5840
for those having the issue were the text file isn't changing after adding .ini rename doesn't change to a config type 1: search file explorer options and open 2:when opened at the top of the window click view 3:uncheck hide extensions for known files and click apply after this rename the nvse_config.ini should change to the correct file type. had this issue my self just sharing if this helped let me know. may revert when updating windows happened to me from win10 to win11
  • @akirosh453
Extremely useful, thanks a lot for making this and taking the time to explain every little detail !
  • @livejoker24
Currently viewing the 4 GB mod and I'm SUPER impressed at how you list every single step. You show where on a page to download, the folder to put things in, even where to download winrar (I like 7zip). I will note that those going for 86x need to pick the correct option when downloading the redist thing (not the first you list but the second). It wasn't any issue since it's also on the same page to download. I'll update when I reach the end of the video! Thank you a million times. I want to set the game up perfectly so I can enjoy New Vegas once again. <3
  • Incredibly helpful. Tried reading a guide on steam before, and when it started asking me to open files and input source code, i was clueless. This is simple, to the point, and effective!
  • @cubablue602
Hugely helpful. Returning to a modded FNV after a few years and on a different system and a LOT has changed. Most NV modding tutorials on YT are now WAY out of date. I love Gopher for example but his NV stuff has not been updated in a long time. Similarly, a lot of the mods have not been updated, it's a mine field modding this game now. So good to see you are one of the few keeping on top of it.
