Donny Dust, renowned outdoorsman and star of hit survival shows like "Dust to Dust," is taking a critical eye to the wildly popular Western game Red Dead Redemption 2. As gameplay unfolds showing protagonist Arthur Morgan navigating the harsh, untamed landscapes and treacherous territories of the dying Old West, Dust analyzes just how plausible and historically accurate the survival elements really are.

The survival expert breaks down RDR2's systems for hunting, gathering resources, camping, and braving the elements. He assesses which skills and techniques depicted would actually apply in reality, from skinning animals and starting campfires to fording rivers and treating injuries. Dust also examines the realism of the firearms, horseback riding, and outlaw lifestyle portrayed. He shares his own tales from living off the grid and how they compare to Arthur Morgan's rugged adventures across the frontier. It's a fresh, informative take on one of gaming's most painstakingly authentic open-world experiences.

“Potential adversaries could be looking at you” -shows Micah😂
  • Donny Dust is an awesome expert to have on the show, I hope we see more of him Also you could have shown him the hunting outfits of the game, see what he thinks of them and which he would wear

what's this? A gameology video that isn't recycled footage? About time.

Experts should be provided some context about the game, such as: -Arthur is a total amateur hunter and fisherman -Even if then animation is not shown, the parts of the body like meat, fat, horns, antlers etc are harvested -Most carcasses can be given to trappers, butchers and out camp cook for further use - Not all carcasses can be picked up or carried by horse

This guy did a fantastic job on the video. Great summary of things and able to dumb it down for people like myself who has no idea about how to properly do any of this stuff.

Love Donny and his review of this game. Tho for me, I think the skinning animations in the game were more so to get the point across rather than trying to go for a super realistic approach. Cause if they did, the time it would take him to skin an animal would be way longer and more tedious. In my opinion, they did a good job with the skinning animations. Theres a lot of things that are accurate about them and a lot that aren't, but at the end of the day, it's a game 🤷👌

I haven’t watched the full video yet, but most of the time they just showed him taking the hide and leaving the carcass there. I wish they would show him hunting and taking the carcass back to camp and bringing it to the camp chef because they always say it’s a waste of meat and all that but like on the main story, it’s definitely not you use that stuff. I’m not going to proofread this comment because I’m using talk to text so I rambled out a lot there
  • It was good to see an actual critique not just amazement at the features , donny was generous with his assessment I reckon

This guy looks like Rick Grimes

Good video! I do wish the experts would be given some basic info about the games they are shown..or at least some info on the way the footage is being played.

I'm glad that he talks about skinning the jackrabbit -- I always wondered if that's really the way to skin it. The side quest where Arthur teaches a widow up in Willard's Rest to hunt a jackrabbit and skin it by pulling it apart makes me wonder. Of course, in the end RDR2 is a game. If it goes too deep into realism, Arthur will take awhile to skin an animal. I miss hunting Legendary Grizzly with Hosea. :(

I love Red dead so many great memories with friends online I wish Rockstar would make DLC even if we had to pay for it it'll be worth it.

6:30 he did not puncture the animal, he just pushed the body, to make sure it was dead/just to push it into an easier position
