Three layers of acoustic and five layers of electric guitar cover a lot of sonic ground. Finding a way to weave it all together is the fun part. If you all are into this kind of stuff and find it helpful please let me know in the comments!

Non players just don't understand guitar face. Really enjoying the level of detail you provide.
  • Love the level of creativity and attention to detail. Reinforces why we keep coming back to you again and again.

I’m just wrapping a month of studio recording here (Calgary, Canada). I’m the singer/songwriter, and I’m BY FAR the weakest link in the chain. Thank the stars for all you studio players who make these songs live and breathe. 😊
  • Great video Nicky! I like the way you broke up the parts of the song. I usually just color the instruments and call it a day. Your way is much easier though. I watch the wavelength when I record so I can see crescendo's, decrescendo's, starts, stops and such, I guess I just never thought about breaking song up. So much easier. When I started in this industry it was during covid so I have very little studio time or I probably would've seen this. I get a track with music, play my part then sent it back that's my day to day. Like the song we did together. Great Advice!! 🎸🎸🎸🤘🤘🤘 Also, Happy Father's Day Everyone!!!

Nicky, this blows me away. I’m a good friend of Steve Allen’s, told him we need to connect soon!

Awesome stuff! Watching you strum the acoustic reminds me that we can become so obsessed with learning the latest tweedly-do or whammy diddle, we overlook the importance of playing the most simple of things with accuracy, precision and consistency.

Nicky is the man! Not only is he an extremely talented and creative musician who makes everything sound incredible, but he is an amazing person who is warm patient and loves what he does and it shows! He makes the music come alive… he is definitely the best of the best and I wouldn’t go anywhere else for session work! 🙏

That was so good Nicky. Thanks for showing this and your process. Great note choices at the end too when you sent it soaring 👏🏻

Nice job Nickster......for years when I do a mono acoustic I'll still sometimes double it just so I can pan it out of the center and leave the vocal have it's space. When recording in stereo I'll actually use a condensor mic on the bridge end to capture the nuances of the strumming or finger-picking and a simple dynamic mic like a SM57 at the neck-meets-the-body position. I seem to get a more dynamic stereo spread that way. For years I used a cheapie Audio Techinica ATM31 condensor mic and felt it was great for acoustic. I later read that Mac McAnally also used that same mic over far more expensive mics he had access to. Another of my favorite techiniques when using two acoustic is to play one in standard key...say E....then capo at the 2nd fret and play in drop D. Adds a LOT of depth to the sound. Keep the vids coming bud !

Love this! Can you do a video outlining how to come prepared you have a song idea and want to pitch/getting linked up with a producer (demo, rough one take recording, sheet with any ideas with time stamps, etc)?

Great work. Like your approach. KISS method. It works for me when I’m recording or sequencing in the studio
