That poor mother losing two of her boys...I can't imagine...especially the baby. ...I have a 4 yr old son and the thought of him out there in the cold deep waters at night being so scared and cold.....what a tragedy. RIP to those two poor babies.

I lived in florida for 20 years and argued with people over not letting my kids go out in water very far. I always respected the predators in the Ocean and embraced the beauty of nature but i also realized the danger. Many people from outside the area visiting have no idea how full of sharks that the shallow areas are.

Quite apart from enjoying the content I’d like to say how much I enjoy this very clear, conversational presentation style. This man has a gift as a friendly communicator with just the right level of informality. Super stuff.

duct tape that’s a “you’re an idiot” spot if ever there was one

Past 72 hours I’ve been listening to these. Falling asleep, driving, bored at work. Thank you! Sharks and gators are my biggest fear. Ok with bears and snakes!
  • Researchers have been pinging quite a few tagged white sharks off the coast of Florida recently.. Alot more than previous thought.

'What you were thinking' was brilliant. I already thought it was gonna be funny but as soon as Hal started laughing I started laughing with him, so I had to rewind that segment several times before I got to the end of the story. I am so impressed at how Hal always manages to get at least 1 shark attack story from Australia. We actually had another fatality in New South Wales around 2 weeks ago. I love that background pic.

I lay in bed listening to these at night before bed and I swear I check for sharks before going to the bathroom 😁 They are all scary but the ones that terrify me are when they see the shark coming or even worse when they have been bit but the shark leaves but then as they try to get back to safety it turns around and heads back for seconds. I can only imagine the absolute horror of just waiting for that next hit..... Shivers

I lived in the USVI. One day a dead whale was spotted by a sea plane traveling from st Thomas to st Croix and the pilot saw more than 10 great white sharks eating it. They are all over the place. You have empathy for the people you talk about. Your a good man.

Unfortunate stories Hal, sharks are brutal. Their always hungry also, unless their chewing on their mate.
  • @jneigler
It’s always fascinating to hear these stories. Thanks for sharing.

Some things are worth fighting for. An octopus isn't one of them

I have never been in the Ocean and never will. I am scared to death of a Shark. I am from Northern Michigan and I will stay in the fresh water for sure. Good show Hal.

I have vacationed in FL 2-3 times before moving to FL in December 2013. I have always cautioned my son from going out too far. I was very nervous as a vacationer in 2003 when me, my son and dad were at Cocoa Beach and my dad had my 8 year old son out in chest deep water and was throwing my son up into the air and letting him come down in the water. Then my dad had hold of my son and was "body surfing" the waves back to shore. My nerves were shot that day. Since my move to FL, my sister that lives here too, has gotten married at NSB (New Smyrna Beach) dubbed "the shark bite capital of the world." I don't even like to go into the water waist deep; I usually go in calf deep to knee deep and know that some sharks can come in that far. I am fascinated and terrified of sharks. Such beautiful, graceful animals can be so menacing and terrifying in less than 2.2 seconds. I know that when I am in the ocean that I am in their home. I would protect my home from intruders too!
