Professor Tim Noakes was born in Harare, Zimbabwe in 1949. As a youngster, he had a keen interest in sport and attended Diocesan College in Cape Town. Following this, he studied at the University of Cape Town (UCT) and obtained an MBChB degree in 1974, an MD in 1981 and a DSc (Med) in Exercise Science in 2002.

Prof. Noakes has published more than 750 scientific books and articles. He has been cited more than 19 000 times in scientific literature, has an H-index of 71 and has been rated an A1 scientist by the National Research Foundation of South Africa for a second 5-year term. He has won numerous awards over the years and made himself available on many editorial boards.

In 2012, Tim founded 'The Noakes Foundation', a Non-Profit Corporation founded for public benefit which aims to advance medical science’s understanding of the benefits of a low-carb high-fat (LCHF) diet by providing evidence-based information on optimum nutrition that is free from commercial agenda. The foundation has also started the Eat Better South Africans campaign, which allows South Africans in even the poorest communities to adopt a high-fat, low-carb, extremely healthy diet for just three dollars per day.

More recently, the foundation has developed 'The Nutrition Network', which is a certification and training program for doctors who want to prescribe a high-fat, low-carb diet to their patients. The platform has been designed exclusively for medical practitioners across all disciplines, covering the latest and most up-to-date science and research in the field of Low Carb Nutrition (nutrition-network.org/)

Prof. Noakes has a passion for running and is still active, running half marathons when he can. He is a devoted husband, father and grandfather and now, in his retirement, is enjoying spending more time with his family.

Such a gentleman in every way. Always a privilege to listen to anything you say, Prof Noakes.
  • God bless you and protect you, doctor Noaks. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood but against principalities against powers and rulers of darkness of this world.

When you get right down to it, I can believe in any man, who is capable of admitting he was wrong. Doesn't matter who he is, doesn't matter what he was wrong about. All I know is, it takes a lot of courage to stand up, and just say 'sorry folks, I was wrong'. The reason I like Tim Noakes, is because he did just that, when he changed his mind on carbs. That, more than anything, is the reason I trust his assessment on carbs vs fats. Real men don't choose the path of least resistance, they choose the truth, no matter how hard the course might be. I believe in you Tim. Stay strong mate.
  • I learned of Dr Noakes from the movie The Magic Pill. So glad to finally hear his voice and his brilliance. He will save millions if we share this and begin the unbrainwashing and deprogramming of so many who have been lied to their whole lives. God Bless you Dr Noakes.

My mum was a servant to his family when she was young. She is 70 years old today and is so ridiculously proud of the prof. I have lost 10kg in 5 months. I am a testament to how good banting works

The top 10 diseases in America are all caused by insulin resistance, yet every one is treated with a different drug.

I was finally able to break through one of my work colleagues about Keto and after many years of high blood pressure medication, she came back with lower blood pressure results! I believe she is now a low carb convert!

All the food which children eat now are very high in carbohydrates. All the processed foods are usually wrapped in pastry or bread with lots of sugar - what a disaster.
  • Thank you for this information. I'm using a low-carb diet and intermittent fasting to train as an MMA fighter. I am also a firefighter and I am working to train my crews to prevent heart disease through physical fitness and proper nutrition. 45% of firefighters on duty deaths are due to cardiovascular events.

Great, great stuff. It's not easy to talk to people about keto/carnivore, but it's good to know that I'll never walk alone. Cheers from Finland.

Sixty years ago I began my training in Medical Science and have followed the guidelines as taught. This last year I was diagnosed diabetic type 2. I am so angry that all this information was available then and not heeded. I was a biochemist I should have known. I can only hope I can reduce my I.R. with my diet so I can live another 10 years, without meds. the British new recommendations for patients with obesity and diabetes is a 800 calorie diet of shakes and soups for 3 months. No mention of carb restriction or fats. I despair.

Thanks for the great video. We live in a very sad world where lay people can no longer trust their doctors and scientists to tell them the truth and help them to get better! This means that ordinary people with no medical training like myself need to research and understand quite advanced scientific and biological concepts. I sometimes feel like I’m undertaking a part-time medical degree in my spare time just so that I can help myself overcome this dreadful insulin resistance...
