Squad ICO Gameplay, playing on a 24/7 invasion server. This was a fantastic match with good communication from the squad leads. We spent the whole match shooting mortars from the mountain top, defending against the USMC and their amphibious landing.

For people wondering, yes this is as realistic as you can get with mortars. The reason the ingame ranges dont work is due to the immense height elevation. I was in the US Army and I was in fact a mortar man, on the 'battlefield' per se we would have what are known as FISTERS go out on patrol with scout squads, these Fisters would gather coordinates for us to use which would be more accurate than what we would have on an actual terrain map, thus making it easier to be accurate with our mortar system. In Afghanistan for example, we were in a higher elevation, this would make us have to adjust our zeroing by a few meters, and in some cases depending how high up we were we would be able to shoot even further by a few hundred meters. I love that Squad added mortars and even though it is extremely simplified, it is still accurate to how its used, my only complaint would actually just be the amount of rounds you can shoot over since in real life you can shoot as many as you like non stop as long as you have cold water to cool down the barrels every couple of shots.
  • "High Angle Hell" I swear Squad players are more accurate than Hollywood when it comes to role-playing soldiers.

When Squad is played by the right players, it is just do damn good.

As a FISTER, I 100% approve this. Obviously these guys don't have a fire direction center to do the math from a non co-located FO, so co-locating is the only option. This is essentially what we would do if we were set up at a support by fire position that didn't have room to set up aiming poles and the mortars would just fire in handheld mode. FIST stands for Fire Support Team btw, that's why we're referred to as FISTERS.

Doing shit like this, being a medic, or even doing logi sometimes is more fun than actually playing infantry sometimes

Range your map so you know where to put your rounds. "When the soldiers start yelling is when you stop firing ". Awsome
  • If you like the mortar, you should make ranging tables for different maps and positions. Then you can just refer to it for mortar settings.
  • Wild noone on the other team decided to shoot at the big obvious fortified position on the hill that had LoS to almost everything.

Imagine a competitive tournament where teams have a commander (coach) with a massive map board like the military HQ and we can see on stream the HQ live creating tactics and communicating with his team while they play, and the opponent equally with the same setup, on top of that commentators talking about each teams tactics and sometimes tunning in the radio of HQ. That would be INSANE competitive gameplay live on Twitch 100k+ people watching or more

The type of team work you can put in background and fall asleep to.

This has to be one of the more genius Squad FOB placement/tactic I've seen so far. Another good FOB placement tactic is called Castle of Thorns and is mainly for insurgents/militia team on urban maps, conceived by another YouTuber (KaptainKrunch97). The TL:DR of it is to find a building near/in an objective zone, reinforce it (basically becoming barricaded forces), and basically piss off the enemy team and make them lose resources by getting them to focus on you. Really fun from what I saw, but I haven't seen it used since the ICO. Should try it sometime!
  • @BIG-BODY-BAG
really fun to watch how good people play the game using team work instead of solo rushing the enemy which works but is not as fun to watch
  • Hanging and banging love the mortar gameplay honestly wish I could find a squad to do this all the time.

This video alone reignited my passion for mortars, time to get that my mortar manual from the army out again and find a squad asap.
