Marcus Samuel turned his father’s London business into one of the most important companies in the history of the oil industry. But the path wasn’t easy. After striking gold and finding the right partnership, Samuel’s business was on the brink of failure after a bitter decade-long rivalry. But ingenious engineering, sponsorship, and deep involvement in both world wars ensured that it would emerge as one of the top 5 oil companies on the planet, even today. This is the story of Shell.

Interesting to mention, in Swahili (at least in Tanzania) petrol/gas stations are called sheli which comes from shell

Pound for pound I would argue that shell is the best managed / most successfully ran of the super majors.

Love them or hate them, Shell's impact on the world is undeniable. But as we look to the future, it's crucial for companies like Shell to prioritize sustainability and embrace cleaner energy solutions.

"over 1800 per day"..??? REALLY..?? That's some seriously poor maths. Should be "nearly 1.9 million barrels per day"..!!!

5:17 'working in tandem with the dutch government' meanwhile showing Hermann Göring (head of the German Luftwaffe)..... You can't do that, thats the same as giving credits to Hitler for winning the war as an Allied commander......

"1 meter sea level rise by 2030", right. Here we are in 2024 and the sea level hasn't even risen 1 inch. What does that tell you?

Shell could not conquer "The great Indian OIL industry" because Indians consumed Tons of oil 🛢️🪔 in street food and that oil was different from the product, Shell sold. 😊😊

Great topic but can you make a video about the history of establishing Boeing company?
  • What killed Shell where I live is the price they charged more than everyone else and wouldn't bring it down too be Competitive.

Exxon Mobil & shell + b.p where part of the " 7 sisters" in middle East oil. They owned the patent for refinement, Arabs & Persians got crude oil value as it came out of land , beyond that these 7 western companies did all processing & profits. Interesting to note Samuels is a Jewish name , so are Rothschild, Oppenheimer !
