Community group seeks to dial down police, dial up federal mental health care

"At the moment, a lot of community members don't feel safe calling the police," said Sha-Lemar Davis with the People's Justice Project.
The People's Justice Project is lobbying to have Congress pass the "People's Response Act" which was introduced in Congress last year.

I want to actually see statistics on the success rate of all these programs. I wonder how many of these workers actually go to calls where that same kind of situation has occurred and they were able to defuse it without them needing weapons or calling for police backup.

I think mental health has increased during Covid, by having to stay at home and limit going outside, going to church, etc. which has caused, unfortunately people to be withdrawn and suffering!

our laws prevent us from getting those with mental health issues help. Unless someone says they need help, there’s no help available. Just like the lady who stabbed the three-year-old. Unless she said I need help, no one could help her. Until she did something drastic. But then, it was far too late. Mother, father sister, brother, children you can’t help those you love, without their consent. But they are suffering mental health issues, and I’m not talking a soft depression, We need to fix the broken system.
