Skylanders was a massive gaming franchise that truly started the rise of the toys to life genre for gaming, but today on this channel, we are looking into the spin-off Skylanders Netflix show, Skylnaders Academy. What it was all about and what happened to it! Also, I take a look at the rise and fall of the skylanders gaming franchise over on my gaming channel:    • The Rise and SAD Fall of Skylanders

  • This was one of those shows that was alright at first, but become pretty good/enjoyable overtime. I really wish that it could’ve gotten a proper conclusion.

You can’t go wrong with Richard Steven horitz. Voicing kaos in both the games and Netflix series is literally a dream come true!
  • It’s weird how this spinoff show actually had a massive plot twist that recontextualises the entire series
  • In hindsight it was a missed opportunity to have more of Spyro friends in the Skylanders franchise like Hunter or Elora.
  • I actually did enjoy it and wish it wasn’t canceled and would have loved to see more of Spyro and Cynder and of Malefor.

When ever Glumshanks was able to have his time on screen was always a fun viewing when he could show he was more then just some bumbling minion. Having his own agency and desires outside of taking care of his master. For instance his friendship and conversations with Kaos's mother.

One thing I always loved that I feel like people don’t talk about much was the animation quality. I have never seen a 3D animation kids show with higher quality than this, it’s sad it got swept under the rug.

In my perspective, I was a fan of Skylanders more over Spyro, and actively collecting a lot of Skylanders and played all of the games. I was never really a fan of the tv show because of its singular glaring problem: it only focused on 5 SKYLANDERS. It was a show only about the MOST popular and iconic of the Skylanders, with as you’ve said, everyone else just supporting or background roles. The games are all about the vast variety of Skylanders being heroes, you collect and play with your favorites, and you’re only going to give attention to 5 of them??? This was my biggest problem with the show, to me it was absolute wasted potential 😞The show went back from SKYLANDERS: Spyro’s Adventure, to skylanders: SPYRO’S ADVENTURE.

One major complaint I have with the show is how it reuses so many models, locations, and assets, like it’s always the same handful of characters and locations in every episode, which is disappointing since the games were all about exploring this literal infinite world, the skylands of the show feels tiny in comparison.

As someone who's more of a Crash & Spyro fan, than a Skylanders fan. This show was honestly pretty good, especially with it's final season. Where not only do we get a fan-favorite character from the games, Flynn. But also more representation from The Legend of Spyro Trilogy with Dark Spyro. Cynder & Malefor were also great additions...which I'm a bit disappointed that the showrunners said on Twitter, that Cynder was going to have a bigger role in the final season, only to appear in the final two-episodes & for some reason, doesn't appear in the big, final battle. But aside from that, I did enjoy it far more than Pac-Man & the ghostly Adventures. And to that end, the 2nd season of Sonic Boom started when Skylanders Academy's 1st season released. While I have a natural preference for Sonic Boom over the other two, there's no denying Skylanders does have more weight when it comes to the story & characters.
  • I wanted a season 4 to be honest to truly wrap it all up. Maybe add in the foreshadowing for Kaos finding the way to turn the Skylanders into planet Earth toys but oh well. Maybe someday we get something fan made that does just that
  • I see this as a send-off/funeral for the franchise As Jon Bailey once said, "...when Skylanders is dead and buried."
  • I remember this show, I am upset that they cancelled it but I will always remember the good memories I had with this show.
  • Man I wish we had Dr. Krankcase in this series. He would've made it even more fun.
  • I watched this show a lot and loved it. I just wished they added more Skylanders, even if they were just for 1 episode.
  • I honestly wasn’t that big of a fan with Skylander Spyro’s design at first, but then I realized that it was a different Spyro all together like how the Legends version of Spyro was not like the Original Spyro. Basically I learned to love all three of the versions of my purple bestie. So while I am sad that there wasn’t a season 4, I still loved the show for what it was. An enjoyable adventure that even gives rise to fanfic ideas. Plus it gave Spyro a chance to be a show and not just a game.

The show was like one of those things that stays in the back your memory rent free until something or someone makes it resurfaces and makes you go "oh I remember that!" (I'm not criticizing the show I just I think it's okay that is how I see it)
  • My favorite thing about this show is that the behind the scenes story that Activision Blizzard was such a nightmare to work with, Netflix effectively Blacklisted their film and TV studio. This was the reason why that Crash Bandicoot cartoon that leaked a while back was scrapped. No one wanted to work with Activision Blizzard. (This could all be bogus, but I remember this story leaking a bit before the Activision Blizzard stuff from last year, so there might actually be some truth to it)
