This video has actually answered the age old question of "How the hell did Notch mess up so badly on the pigs that he accidentally made the creeper". The textures must have corrupted like on the creeper at the beginning, and the body had rendered upright like the cow slightly later.

3:07 fun fact, thats actually how the creeper was born, with an 'upright' pig they were trying to render. I dont know what possessed them, but they kept it and colored it green. And so the creeper was born.
