Hello Gooble Reacts! [ @gooblereacts ] ! Nightwish fan here, your musical quest summoned me. Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band! This live recording is from Helsinki in 2005, then together with Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tar-rya], the 1st female singer of the band, and Marco Hietala, bassist and singer. About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen [pronounced Tuo-mas], the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [Sami Vanska was the bassist of the band starting with their 2nd studio album, he was with them until 2001. Then Marco Hietala was bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least. Then in May 2021 Jukka Koskinen [pronounced Yukka] became the bassist of the band, for the Human :II: Nature tour - and recently, the band announced he became a permanent member] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen [he also recorded the bass lines for their 1st studio album]. Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen [pronounced Yukka] is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tarr-ya] (Operatic vocals) - you just heard her. She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile). There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps. I want to welcome you to the Nightwish community. I hope you like them enough to continue the journey. Believe me Nightwish will surprise you with their songs. You will never know what to expect. They are unbelievable live. I want to warn you that Nightwish fans are hard core. So be prepared. lol " For an extended set of suggestion (with links), I posted 2 huge comments in the community tab in my main YT channel: youtube.com/@gabriel.bardac/community 🤘

Symphonic Metal is such a beautiful genre, and Nightwish are one of the most influential pioneers. The funny thing is it was almost an accident they went into this direction, the guys and Tarja went to the same school, and after graduation they didn't know she had just started her classical singing training. Once they found out how much her voice had changed, instead of replacing her, Tuomas made his music fit her vocals. :) And Tarja had to figure out how to make her vocals suit this heavier music, which apparently cost her many tears in the record studio. But it was so so worth it. She's no longer with the band but she'll always be famous <3

What I love most about this performance is how psychotic Marko's "Phantom" is... It fits so much better than the classic "clean" singing 🤪😂
  • Like Marco the best. Tarja is just being her beautiful self. Neither one is with the band anymore. The drummer isn't active drumming with band but he's still behind the scenes. Tarja had to learn to sing metal because she classically trained. The current singer sings this with Henk Poort at Beste Zangers and the current version in the Netherlands. The colors are just Tarja

Nightwish likes to call themselves "Symphonic metal" - and they do that, from metal to symphonic, and blending sort of cross-over between two, with some classical like pieces,m and some metal ones as well. That also includes a trained classic singer. The one you reacted was their first vocalist - Tarja Turunen; now, they are with the third singer, Dutch girl named Floor Jansen. I'm sure Gabriel will drop in soon, with his list of oldies-goldies (to say the truth, not only goldies, but since last longplay came 3 years ago, I feel justified) to follow. Floor is also singing solo, and did quite a bit of interesting covers - first for Dutch show "Beste Sangers" (Best SIngers), then a few more in Covid era. They're all sort of influenced by Nightwish style, but much more focusing on Floor vocals - which are really great. I'd say perhaps it's better to start with some Floor songs, to get you ready for a harder vibe from Nightwish - or you can jump in Nightwish tracks, being aware some of their best compositions are quite heavy - for a first listen especially.

Did se that tour in stockholm sweden 2005..just few days before this was recorded in helsinki finland..about one month later tarja left the band. The concert was truly unforgettable..

I think they played this down one key, as Marco tunes his bass one tone lower. Tarja, from Finland, is a lyric soprano who studied Lieder in Germany. She was singer 1996-2005. They had a pop singer from 2006-2012. 2013 to current is Floor, a classically trained rock vocalist

Their first internationally big song, Wishmaster, is what got me hooked 20 years ago and is well worth watching; the End of an Era (2006) performance is solid. All their performances from that tour DVD are excellent; everyone will recommend Floor's version of Ghost Love Score, but I think Tarja shines with it. Nemo, Planet Hell, The Siren, Dark Chest of Wonders, Wish I Had an Angel, and their cover of Over The Hills And Far Away are all amazing. Also check out Epica, another great band that started not too long after Nightwish; Epica's singer Simone Simons is top tier; she does a duet with Floor of Sancta Terra in their Live Retrospect show that's absolutely worth reacting to.
  • @tenorcenter
Check out Sleeping Sun and Wishmaster from this same show! It really shows their original creations and a more rounded display of Tarja’s vocals.

Hi Gooble, thanks for this analysis, Nighwish are from Finland and this was their first singer Tarja Turunen, it was recorded in 2005. Maybe you should also check out the Amsterdam version, there is a new singer there, I was at the concert myself and can only tell you good things about it. So now I wish you a lot of fun with the Nightwish Army . General Gabriel will tell you a lot more .
  • Nightwish Army, Blue Mountains Corps, Australia. Nightwish is from Finland. What Gabriel said! Marko Hietala is SUCH a beastly Phantom! His performance of "High Hopes" is astonishing! Tarja's solo album "Harus" is also very worth a listen! Wacken 2013 Nightwish gig was AWESOME! Different singer, Floor Jansen, but top notch! Once in a Century concert! Tuomas Holopainen on keyboards is the mastermind behind Nightwish and their sound - Symphonic Metal. Tuomas is THE Metal Mozart! Full orchestration and no two songs are ever the same apart from filling the listener with emotions - sometimes ALL of them in the one opus! P.S. Tarja has a rainbow of outfits and mike-stands and mikes to match!
  • @paulakuljunlahti
Lovely❤ you found this masterpiece! I’m so thankful. Welcome to macigal world of symphonic metal band Nightwish. They come Finland.
  • As mentioned already before: "Ghost Love Score" from Wacken 2013 is the perfect entrance to Nightwish and it will introduce Floor Jansen (from the Netherlands) their third and current singer to you. I was lucky to see and shoot them eight days after that legendary Wacken concert at M'era Luna Festival.
  • Want to note she also had the flu during this concert. React to Tarja’s solo work. Want more of her higher range react to “Supremacy” live at Woodstock.
  • @jaskau2462

Hello there, greetings from UK @gooblereacts That was a great reaction, thank you 😊 I add my voice to the others who recommend that you listen to "Ghost Love Score" from the Wacken 2013 concert. That should give you a good idea as to what Nightwish and Symphonic Metal are all about, and you would meet Floor 😁
