Jillian Michaels is Right about the Keto Diet? (Is Keto Dangerous?)

The ketogenic way of eating is getting popular, and it may be cutting into the profits of those who have made millions promoting calorie restriction and exercise. Eating lots of healthy fat, moderate protein and very low carbs has helped many people reverse obesity and chronic disease they thought was permanent.

Jillian Michaels is a very famous and successful fitness trainer. She is a great proponent of exercise as a method of weight loss. She was a celebrity trainer on the TV program Biggest Loser for a few years. Wonder why they have never had a Biggest Loser reunion show? Can you guess why?

Calorie restriction is the wrong paradigm for weight loss. The calorie restriction hypothesis of weight loss has been around for 100 years, and yet we somehow still have epidemics of obesity, fatty liver, type 2 diabetes and other chronic diseases of diet. Either you are a worthless glutton and sloth, or calorie restriction is a worthless paradigm for meaningful, long-term weight loss.

  • I can tell you that the Ketogenic diet is probably going to save my husband’s life, as for the first time in over 18 months, he has been able to stop using injectable insulin. Thank you for your humor!
  • Keto is so dangerous and being in Ketosis has such a negative effect on the body that I’ve lost 184 lbs so far on it. And also lost type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, fibromyalgia, acid reflux, sleep apnea, arthritis, and ton of other ailments. Oh, and I also lost the medication I was on. What did I find when I was doing a high carb diet? Cancer twice! I lost half a breast, a uterus, cervix, Fallopian tubes, and my ovaries. Oh, and let’s not forget the thousands of dollars I lost out of my wallet for the medical expenses it took to remove all of that. Then there was the cost of several rounds of chemo and weeks and weeks of radiation treatments. I Was given a 5 year survival rate and told that I would live long enough to get cancer again. I Thank my lucky stars (really a lot of praying for a miracle) that I found a keto diet after the second cancer diagnosis. Which as been WELL over a decade now. I’ll take keto any day and I’ll take being in Ketosis as a means of staying healthy over “traditional” weight loss advice. If you are reading this and your are feeling horrible, try Keto. What do you have to lose? That is how I felt when I started Keto/Low Carb and I have never regretted a day of it.

"Protecting HER financial interest".......you hit the nail on the head Dr. 💁🏻‍♀️

I started the Keto Eating Program the first week of January of 2019. I am 62 and was so over weight and had so much inflammation in my joints I could barely walk with a cane. Today, I'm 90 lbs lighter and feel 30 years younger, I can now live my life again, walk briskly without any help, stand, move and enjoy life again. I praise this life style as a life saver for me and now I look forward to living too 100! P.S I wish I had known about Keto before I had Gastric By Pass surgery in 2007 because that along with all other diets I tried never worked for me like Keto, I feel I finally have control.
  • @colonizespace
I did Keto & I regretted it. In late December 2014 to mid March 2015, I lost 85 lbs, allergies went away, skin issues cleared up & breathing issues went away when I went on Keto. I don't recommend Keto to people. I still have not recouped that weight since then. How dare this make me feel so much better!
  • @matthewfunk6658
I appreciate the gracious and humble way you handled Jillian. You could have slammed her but instead, you gently and respectfully showed how she was wrong. Good on you mate!
  • @spearsg
00:01:52 "...but if a doctor truly takes his oath seriously [...] he keeps learning." This is your difference, doctor, and it is soooooo appreciated! Thank you.
  • @misspriss13pink
Been doing keto for 5 weeks now. Feeling great. Joints less achy, more energy, lost 21lbs so far.
  • @clemke1044
The young man with one arm who was on Biggest Loser is from my home town. I was so sad to see him at the movie theatre last week as big as he ever was. I still remember the show and how he cried and was so determined to change his life through weight loss. So sad. I wanted to go up to him and give him a hug and whisper "Go Keto" in his ear. Thank you Dr. Ken for staying the course.
  • @irabra4014
I'm a 70 yr old woman ,from Houston, also diebetic, the KETO diet is the only diet that has helped, thank u Sir, love all ur videos 👍
  • @vas4739
What’s frustrating is TRYING to educate my PCP and cardiologist who push back but I do keto/IF anyway and got off ALL my 17 meds over two years now. Think I’ve outgrown my doctors. BTW I’m 65.
  • @clark3830
As a retired physician, I totally agree with you on this subject. I have 3 doctorates and just retired about 24 months ago at 68. Jillian is totally wrong to a point. Reduction of carbs and sugars will make us live longer and reduce cancer production. Well done Doc.
  • @KenDBerryMD
The ketogenic way of eating is a grassroots movement that will never stop until it has reached every person in the world who needs to hear the message. You can reverse your obesity, diabetes, and other chronic medical conditions by eating the proper human diet.
  • @drewschlosser26
I found dr. Berry on James yeagers channel and decided to try keto. I started keto in June of 2018 at 295lbs and am down 90lbs. I will never go back to how I used to live
  • @ThadcJarvis
How you stated "I've recommend all these diets, back when I was a stupid doctor, before I knew better." Appreciate you Dr.Berry!
  • @mikescott1029
I'm a 78 year old male who has been on Atkins (Keto) for 23 years now and maintained an 82 weight loss. My problem was that I was completely addicted to carbs. Even after 23 years on Atkins if I were to eat a single grape or cherry it would take me more than a month and ten pounds later to regain control and stop eating fruit! Until I was on Atkins my eating was always out of control! When I was Jillian Michaels age there was no problem with my weight. I only became insulin resistant at about 56. Before I was able to eat anything and never seemed to put on weight. Great job Dr. Berry! (Mike Scott, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada)
  • @Phoenix167
Dr Berry Keto has changed my life. I started in April 18 at 234 pounds. My A1C was 6.9. The Dr wanted to put me on Metformin. I started keto and in 1 month my A1C went to 5.9. No Metformin. I now weigh 175 pounds and feel great. I do have one cheat meal a week. Im never going back to the way I ate before. Keto has been a life changer for me. Thanks for all the great videos. Also I used to have sleep apnea and its gone because I lost the weight.
  • @johnray9088
When I was 34, I suffered a serious back injury. I lived with that injury, and the inflammation that came with it, for 14 years. I started keto in August of this year and all of that inflammation is gone. In fact all of my inflammation is gone. I've lost over 70 lbs. I'm actually 10 lbs lighter than when I played football in highschool. I've also suffered with chronic sinus infections my entire adult life. Well, those infections are all gone and I would like to thank Dr. Berry for being a essential part of my transformation and enlightenment. Thank you Dr. Berry for helping so many live a quality life, including myself.
  • I want to make a point about calorie restriction. I have suffered from severe anorexia for 37 years, and 6 months ago, I went into such severe malnutrition that I needed tube feeding in order to survive, and I was about 40 pounds overweight at the time. For the past 20 years, no matter how severely I was restricting (about 400 cal a day) my weight did not budge AT ALL. I was about 40 pounds overweight, and when I go to treatment, I gain an additional 10 kg. My metabolism is DONE. Of course I say "keto" to my eating disorder treatment team and they all lose their minds...even though they KNOW it can improve my health. Calorie restriction has damaged my body so much. Now I'm going to take responsibility for my own health and recover from insulin resistance
