So helpful and timely. My solar contractor just changed subs for my roof and now I know what to ask. I am DEFINITELY in a hurricane zone, just 5 miles from the ocean in South Florida.
  • Exposed fastener metal roofs survived hurricane Ian in Cape Coral, Florida where Ian stalled right off of Sanibel Island and pounded Sanibel, Ft. Myers Beach, Pine Island and Cape Coral for hours and hours before it finally moved just north of us and officially came ashore south of Punta Gorda, Florida. According to FEMA snap lock metal panel roofs are the worst performers in hurricanes when they inspect roofs after a hurricane cane. There are many examples of snap lock panel metal roof failures after hurricanes and even mechanical seam metal roof failures after hurricanes. Exposed fastener metal roofs have more attachment points and they are the easiest to check to make sure they have enough fasteners installed. Hidden fastener metal roofs are hard to determine if they have proper attachment points and let's face it there are many roofing companies that do not install metal roofs properly taking short cuts to increase profit.

It would be great if you could cover different insulated roof assemblies and the added cost that would be entailed along with their thermal performance and effects on noise.

Just got back from Lake Charles. A lot of standing seam is gone! But it’s hit and miss. I saw a trailer with not one shingle off. 140 MPH wind is crazy

Thad, please explain the need for, and options for ventilating between the roof deck and the metal roof. I am confused about whether ventilation is recommended, required, desirable, worth the money, etc. I have seen 1x2 installed at 45 degrees, and I have seen mesh products (including EMF blockers) and I am totally at a loss to decide how to go.

My house in Puerto Rico has a Zink Roof. Is is possible to install Metal Roof Tiles on top of the Zink Sheets? (The Zink Sheets are mounted on a plywood roof)

Most HO associations won’t allow a metal roof how can we change their rules? My thoughts are to give insurance discounts to prove the value

Can you guys talk about non-penetrating mounts for solar panels on standing seam in hurricane areas?
  • @Mariano_Rms239
Can you please do a video on how to find out how much wind is a house exposed to
  • @paulellis5039
Can i buy my metal roof from you an install it myself, would be in Ocala fl
  • I’m a fan of your channel but this video was too vague. The NRCA has a clearly defined guideline for fasteners depending upon your geographic zone, i.e. how close you are to the coastline. I like your channel but thought this video could have been more practical for installers to follow.

I normally don't comment, but wanted to give some constructive criticism. I wish Jeff would clean up his office and make his interview a little more professional. His knowledge is great, but the presentation is a let down. (For this video and the other ones before this.) His shirt is the same color as the background, was slouching in his chair, and the lighting was't sufficient. I get that it's supposed to be a casual Q&A conversation, but... I wish there was just a little more effort. Thad, on the other hand, was well lit, had an attractive background, and was sitting upright. (He could have had his name listed like Jeff's was, however.) Don't get me wrong, y'all are doing a great job and I've learned a lot, so please keep making videos. Just want y'all to be better is all.
