2:47 this is the first time I've seen someone having trouble talking during a fight in an anime. Such a nice touch for realism.

the fact that unarmed thorfinn was a tougher fight for snake than armed (but wounded) gardar is amazing to me

2:23 is this the first time people acknowledge a yelling conversation on anime? 😂 Dude let them have a whole conversation and responded like a normal person. Usually characters go into a pocket dimension for these conversations in anime

2:27 Snake pressed R3 to lock on his opponent then pressed L2 to use Quickstep Skill moving leftward twice, in between, he also changed his weapon's attack mode. Nice move.

for those who dont understand snake's attack that won him the fight, he used the back of his sword (dull side of the blade) to strike gardar's wound that was sustained earlier. this caused gardar to be overcome with pain, effectively incapacitated.

This was an already injured Gardar. Not only that, he was hellbent on killing anyone in his path using adrenaline and rage with brute strength and wasn't thinking his strikes. Similar to what thorfinn was like with askellad and askellad toyed with thorfinns head so he can react and get in his head. If an "all aware" gardar faced snake and wasn't injured, snake would have been in trouble here. Gardar probably lived in same path where thorfinn could have been. Gardar was a regular folk, went to war, saw a lot of stuff, survived it all and turned into a slave and killed his masters because of one objective that is haunting him - to get back to his family.

In the manga when he asked if he was Ketil Gardar replies “then you’re dead” and that goes way harder than “I’ll kill you”

The soundtrack was amazing, holyyyy!!!

I love the subtle detail of Snake playing with his sword and settling on the false edge after saying he'll take Gardar alive.

I love this Thorfinn, I mean of course he’s going to mature etc. . But what I love is in that moment he was the one say something so logical and real.

everybodies saying 'oh if gardar wasnt injured he wouldve won' but honestly i think his dumb brute strength and lack of thinking was the only reason snake was on the ropes here. gardar clearly wasnt thinking about blocking at all, and thats the only reason snake took so long to strike, because he knew that he wouldve been cut down if he went at him normally because the sick man wasnt thinking about himself

I love that they capture the danger of certain injuries. Anime is very good at downplaying the results (Demon slayer). A fever was deadly and they thought it was supernatural 😅

Meen snake is a badass

At 0:10 Snake says in the English subtitles "If you do, I'll kill him", whereas when you watch the episode with French subtitles he does not threaten to kill Gardar but rather to cut off Arnheid's arm if she decides to take Gardar's hand. I wonder why that difference in translation was made.

RIP Gardar. He just wanted to be free with his family
