Tax payers are not homeowners insurance companies. If people are going to live on the coast they need to pay higher taxes and get homeowners insurance.

That's ashame that the people who are struggling to keep a roof over their heads have to have money taken out to support the rich, luxury beach community. Sounds backwards to me
  • Indeed,if the cost is that high, let those home owners share the burden of cost of rejuvenating the beaches.

It’s not everyone else’s responsibility to maintain your home and the land it sits on.

Geez they can afford to live there, but don't pay enough taxes for their luxury living.

Exactly why these barrier islands are BARRIER islands should not be taken over. The shoreline belongs to America not greedy individuals.
  • That is a sandbar. Nobody should be allowed to build on them. Remove all trace of the dwellings and turn that sand spit intoparkland.

Wonder how that money would help hungry kids, the homeless...
  • They brought over 100 loads of sand past our house each day for over three months this past winter just to restore the beach for the wealthy community that lives along our coast!
  • The privillage community should be reimbursing the cost of the Army Corp of Engineers.
  • Where I live ( new england) it costs the " little people" up to 30 bucks to park at the beach while the flithy rich ( that live there already since they can afford multimillion dollar homes) pay 0. Then the little people have to pay when the mansion get slammed by a storm? This is disgusting.

Meanwhile... somehow we can't seem to find any money to help poor homeless human beings. Capitalism doesn't work for most of us.

Anyone near the coast should be paying a huge Hurricane Tax.
  • I’ve been hearing the same complaints for decades now. Nothing changes.

"Tax Payer" meaning the poor as there is no middle class, and the wealthy who build on fragile ecosystems nd destroy our planet literally pay less than I do and I am BELOW the poverty line. If they want to build there their property taxes should reflect 1000% of what it would cost to repair the damages.

“The main disadvantage is cost. But the advantages outweigh the disadvantages” absolutely brilliant

The people in this communities should pay the cost, not everyone else. You live in luxury you pay for it, simple
