I've never been in love before
Not like this you taught me more
Hung out by myself
Well I lived upon a shelf
And cried 'cause I thought I could not give
My pride would not let me live
All my feelings disappeared
You are lovely reason I
Am alive you satisfy
All my senses and you give
Me the confidence to grow
In a thousand different ways
Happy just to spend the days
Of my lifetime by your side
I want to be
Everything that I can
I want so much
To be more of a man
I want to grow
I want to know you better
Each day I'll try
To love you
'Cause I've never been in love before
You have a friend for life in me
If we ever disagree
And you have to go away
I will set you free with joy
'Cause your happiness is mine
May our light forever shine
May you always feel free
I want to be
Everything that I can
I want so much
To be more of a man
I want to live
I want to give my lifetime
Each day I'll try
To love you
'Cause I've never been in love before

Really nice. This is from around 1975, when Lamm, Kath & Cetera still worked out 3-part vocals, not just a lead singer singing a song. You can hear that beautiful 3-voice texture here during the choruses. Also, turn down the treble, turn up the bass, and listen to how melodic and beautiful Cetera's bass playing is, especially during the verses. Often overlooked. He himself said Paul McCartney was his inspiration. Bass players get the least respect in a band. Not fair. A bass player literally makes the ground beneath your feet move during a song! Without that, every band would sound like a tinny little AM radio. RESPECT to all bass players out there!

Peter's vocal is so beautiful

Thought I'd revisit the comments about this beautiful song by Chicago. 46 years later, it still moves me, like I'm hearing it for the first time when I was 15.
-
Peter sings this song as only he can sing , he is truly a master ππππ
-
Robert Lamm sure knows how to write a love song and Peter Cetera sure knows how to sing it. Love this song.
-
One of the most underrated Chicago songs ever. Slick bassline, awesome chord progressions, soaring vocals, smooth horns.
-
IMO their most underrated song. Just superb in every way.
-
The photo is simply beautiful; the song is, too. The mid-70s were such an incredible time for the boys of Chicago. The band would never produce music like this again.
-
What a BEAUTIFUL song....brings a tear to my eye! I hope the young generation can experience the NOBILITY of wonderful music like Chicago.
-
Peter, one of the greatest voices on the planet...
-
Amazing how this song has so much more meaning to me now than it did 37 years ago.

Beautiful song. They had so many good songs in addition to the greatest hits from the 70's and 80's. They were all so talented together. What a great band. There were many good musicians back then, but no band equals Chicago with their instrumentation.

Should have been released as a Single!
-
another classic by the master robert lamm
-
Cetera what a fantastic voice & a tremendous bass player, Seraphine was really funky on the drums. Written by Hall of Fame writer ; Robert Lamm This tasty band had so much talent !
-
Coming out of the instrumental break, when Cetera sings "You have a friend... simultaneously with the horn section has always been an incredible moment (and still is) in this , my favorite song by Chicago.
-
Was there a more melodic and groove bass player than Cetera? Immensely gifted performer.
-
Should have been a hit.

I was 15 and I can still remember listening to this record. For those of us who played in the school band back in the β70βs, this music was EVERYTHING!
