Those accents make me think I actually don't know English.

The moment she said even she had to use subtitles when watching peaky blinders I felt relieved and more self-confident about my understanding of english because I was desperately trying to watch it without any kind of subtitles

I just watched this video clip, and I was stunned by the fact that there's a lot of useful information here! Rarely see native speakers elsewhere explain pronunciation with IPA symbols! Please keep up with all the good work, and that's what we, English learners, need! ; ) Thank you!

For non-native English speakers who are beginners, the differences between American English and British English are limited.

British accent is special one. Not only in different pronouncion of separate sounds, but also in intonation. I just adore it.
  • Assalam o alaikum everyone I just love British people they are so sweet and humble they speak very politely I wanna speak like them very smoothly and in good manners Love from azad Kashmir
  • British people pronounce some vowels as we do in spanish. when i was a begginer, i didin't distinguish the difference and i thought they were native spanish speakers trying to speak in english.very useful content, i'm constantly learning a lot of things about this beautiful language every day. thank you very much.
  • We are a family of Japanese origin who spent a big portion of our life in US but we also lived in Birmingham UK for nearly 7 years. I liked the Birmingham accent except it was very difficult to understand for me. I remember ladies there speak sing-songy way and I thought that was very cute, again I had to concentrate so that I can understand what they were saying. In any case, it is a wonderful memory. My older son a gown up man speaks with a slight British access even though it has been many years since he left UK.

16:36 if there is no subtitle I'll never be able to understand this man

Nice to hear regional British accents, even if most examples are gentler than the more extreme versions. I’m from the North East of England and people living in one part of Newcastle struggle to understand some from the other side of the city. Very different to here in the USA and even more so than in Australia. Yes, I know Texans don’t sound like New Yorkers and, even in New York, there are local differences, but in the UK you travel much shorter distances to get much more marked differences.
