Homelander: Until we merge together as one. That is disgusting. As much as Homelander can say he loves Ryan, he only loves him as an extension of himself. Love is no real substitute for the fact Homelander has no idea how to act like an actual father.

It's honestly a little tragic because this scene implies Homelander desperately desires proper family. He wants to feel like a real father, since he never got to experience that for himself. But his ego is a terrible thing for a father to have. Half the reason Butcher ended up the way he did was because of his own terrible father. Homelander can't understand Ryan's feelings towards Billy, because he never had a father of his own.
