Classic CHEVY C10 | Removing & Installing a tailgate

Published 2020-07-13
Welcome to Classics Are Better, where we appreciate & celebrate CARS and TRUCKS from the 1950s to the early 2000s.

This week we are swapping out the tailgate on my 1960 C10. Pretty much any Chevy/GM stepside tailgate setup is going to be the same from the late 1950s to the mid 1980s. Fleetside is similar, but the trunnions are configured a little differently. We tackle what to do and how to handle an uncooperative bolt or two. Hopefully this may help one of you out there that is hesitant to do it yourself, I'm no expert, but I got it done! Don't be scared to work on your own stuff!!

Thank you for hanging out in the shop with me, please like and subscribe (lame to ask, but that's how the youtube works lol), and keep on wrenching my friends! Hope to have more videos and content soon!

How do you get the trunnion out of the tailgate if its rusted in there, mine will not come out and the bolt snapped off. I was thinking of welding a nut onto it and using a slide hammer to pull it out, but not sure if that will do it? Was also thinking I could retap it and using a new bolt as a pivot, do you have any ideas? I have a 66 fleetside LB.
