I'm so glad Calli decided to delve into the rock genre, this absolutely kills.

She wasn't kidding when she said this one is the strongest message since Off With Their Heads. Banger.
  • Y'know, with everything that's been going on, this song's essentially a big reminder NOT to treat those under your care like objects, lest they snap back at you. And it's a banger.

Alt-rock hololive era is my favorite

At this point, I'm convinced that Calli could make any kind of song and kick ass doing it.

I love how Mori is still hearting comments from this as recently as 3 days ago, she must really be proud of this song...... and I can't blame her, it "hits different" as the kids say.

Only Mori would so blatantly use the fires of the industry to cook like this. Everything from the vocals to the visuals to the lyrics speaks of rage against a predatory system and an angry/desperate wake up call to do something about it. Love it. Edit: Upon multiple viewings, I think the last shot of Mori with flowers is somehow prophetic. As if to imply that when Mori can finally put her bat away and get her flowers is when the girls can smile freely again. Take that for what you will.

So my understanding of the song is that the TV heads are treating the girls like horses in a race, turning them against each other and happy to send them to the metaphorical glue factory when they don’t win. The girls though aren’t opponents, they’re part of a group on the same side and eventually unite and rip apart the men who’d use them as a glorified poker hand.
  • Outside of this song being an absolutely banger, it's also extremely relevant. One of my oshis ended up graduating because the management in the company she was from had the same mindset as the TV heads and were making the girls compete with each other over numbers when they just wanted to have fun with each other and their audience. What made it worse was that she really absolutely loved being a vtuber and was extremely passionate about it. Her graduation was just extremely hard to go through because it wasn't a case where she had accepted it (not that it wouldn't be any easier that way), but it was obvious she just didn't want to leave her community that she built up, but it was something that she HAD to do because things were just that bad. Even though she definitely has implied that she'll come back eventually, it just sucks that she still could've been having fun with her fellow coworkers and her community, but management was far more concerned about numbers than their well-being of their talents. And I get that numbers are important, it's not the only thing, and a lot of companies are starting to learn that the hard way. And if there is one good thing is that a lot of talents are indeed learning to stick together when management are mistreating them. Sorry for this essay, this songs just hits a bit different for me I suppose lol. I just I hope to see my guild leader again.

I am thankful Mori Calliope has the creative freedom to write, perform, and publish a song as fierce as Overkill :_gohstrider:

This proves it. There will eventually be a Calli song you genuinely like. There's no escaping her.

This is a reminder to ALL holofans and others that these girls/boys are not toys to be fought over, not owned or here for our benefit, but people who have choosen to be entertainers/singers/musicians/idols/gamers that either inspire or include our passions for these things, not to be taken for granted or forced into situations or acts that are NOT something they want to do. This song is a hard reminder for all of us.

As a rock and metal fan the more Calli leans into that sound the more I'm invested in her music. This actual instrumentation of this song is easily one of my favorites, accompanied by her amazing as always vocals and beautiful MV. Excited to see what she does next! :_deadbeats:
