Four coffee packs is the best idea ever. That would be a huge moral boost on long cold nights of guard duty.

You need to go to a proper bakery and get a fresh loaf of rye cut it up, butter it up, then throw some corned beef on it! Delicious!

Hey Schlee Not sure about the Latvian MRE 😆but you did good. THANKS again. RUSTY
  • I found all Latvian, Lithuanian and polish rations a bit on the bland side ...taste ok , but could do with a bit of a kick of flavour...btw the Spanish also have fishy fuel tabs... nice video 👍👍👍

I’ve found that the canned mains in the Eastern European MREs have a lot more fat than we are used to. It’s normal and provides calories needed for strenuous activities. Good review and loved the “Schlee approved packaging”! Too bad you didn’t try the rye bread, I really like it, the wife not so much.
  • Well that SUCKED about the condition of that ration I am sorry about that Schlee...though I am glad you still enjoyed the experience. I think Mike's right, the fishy smell is probably from the fuel tablets not from any of the edible components, well possibly edible components. Hopefully the remaining rations I sent are in much better condition, Cheers!

Really interesting porridge, I've had only sweet ones, but this might be a nice change. Note that this is a single meal ration, so for 24h you get 12 coffees. Maybe they use it as a fuel ;)

Cool review. I have tried one of the old style, none of the new style. Mine was excellent at the time. The new rye bread, has plastic in between the slices, much more convenient. That is normal texture and aroma on bread. Shame on the jams. They were excellent at one time. Fishy smell is fuel tabs. I have been fooled may times, until I figured it out. We all forgot to pop the lid on can one or twice as well. You are not alone, LOL. We learn as we go. Main looks awesome. The sugar is made from sugar beets, not cane sugar, like we are accustomed to. I find it quite tasty. Sorry not everything held up. Still A pleasant experience for you. Peace from Ky. , John.

Rye & pumpernickel black bread are dense & tough by nature when fresh ,dont think twice about eating it, i grew up on both as for the jelly whats your fear it was in a sealed container, probably just got jostled around too much
  • Everything with maybe the exception of one of the jellies was probably perfectly fine. Some foreign meals have a little off smell compared to what Americans are used to. The bread may be a little dried. Probably harmless. Guys would say. “It just makes hair grow on your chest”. in your case, I don’t think you’d like that. 😂. anyway probably would’ve been just fine. OK

That MR could have been stored in unfavorable conditions for a length of time. They do go bad and never take chances with your health. It's too bad about the bread though I love that stuff.
  • I would have also erred on the side of caution…. If something doesn’t smell right (whether it has gone bad or not) it kills my appetite completely LOL as for the rye bread, it is a very dense bread and not my fave at all, the only thing I could say that rye bread works with is a Ruben sandwich, which is not my fave at all LOL

There are many kinds of rye bread. That looks like one of the worst MREs I've seen reviewed- you do a great job describing them... and then there are the visuals that nobody can fix 😕 And you're right- it's fun just to see what is in other countries' MREs. I like getting them from various places. Won't be ordering from tosavi on eBay again, however. Anything that spurts out when opening the can is an automatic DQ when out of date. You're wise to be cautious. The old Russian ones had 4 packages of sugar that size... nuts !!

The beautiful brawny brown MRE spoon definitely wins over the wimpy wittle white spoon. Sorry about your clothes there when the can spat at you, but please please for safety sake please do not heat any cans without at least cracking the lid open slightly. They can explode unexpectedly! (Especially if overheated) I think you got lucky with it just spitting on you. Too bad the oils in everything had gone sideways. The oils that make the berry aromas in the tea probably also had gone flat and that's why your tea seemed boring. Everything else had gone pretty rancid from the sounds of it. Mixing raisins with other nuts for even a few weeks period of time always does that even in a regular resealed sealed container. You should save up all of your different heating/fire items have a little competition out on the driveway to see which one can boil two cups of water The quickest. It was still fun to see all the contents even if you weren't eating it. Definitely items with too much oil that can go rancid. I'm betting many of the other MREs have way less oil so that they last longer.
