MINI Getrag 5 Spd: Final Thoughts (Part 8 of 8)

Published 2019-06-13
In this video, I wrap up my overhaul of the 2005 R50 (base model) MINI Cooper 5 speed manual transmission. This is the Getrag manufactured transmission, which is slightly less useless than the terribad British Midlands unit used from 2001 through 2004. At the end of the day, the transmission has a noise in it that I cannot solve, despite knowing where it is coming from. It does not seem like a critical failure point though, and so it will remain as a part of the car's character (or until it kills the trans and I swap in a six speed). I am not a transmission repair professional, nor am I a professional in anything I post here on YouTube, so watch my videos for entertainment and not as proper instruction on how to do things. Don't do this at home, I am what you'd call an amateur.

Where did you source your replacement gears? I have a getrag 5 speed that seems to have a non existent 5th gear, and I was just trying to source parts for worst case scenario. Thanks

Did you ever resolve the noise issue? I'm in the exact same boat. I rebuilt my 5-speed and replaced my loose reverse gear and now I hear a rattling noise whenever the input shaft is spinning.
