Publicado 2024-02-04
Finally it´s time to start with the indoor renovations of my Swedish country cottage. I´m going to choose wallpapers and new color for the old front door.

  • I really like the yellow wallpaper for the kitchen. I think it's cheerful and would just brighten your days! The green would look good with it, too.

Love your wallpaper choices! Can't wait to see what you do! I love bold colors and patterns and had wallpaper in my last house and loved it!
  • Imho - you've got such lovely airy rooms that flow so nicely! Personally I've found that wallpapers with 'busy' patterns tend to make rooms feel & look smaller, so over the years I've played with paints to create wall faux finishes, that expand spacious airy feel. Just my 2 cents with your beautiful home ☺

All your wallpaper options are gorgeous! You can't go wrong with any of them.

One suggestion from New York City remember you have to live with that for a long time Why not choose a wallpaper with a white background it would not make the rooms look small but I’m sure whatever you choose will be nice

LOVE the middle wallpaper that you have hanging upstairs. I would do minimal wallpaper however otherwise things will look too busy with all that pattern everywhere.

I woudn´ t go for such big and buzy wallpaper patterns. It doesn´t really fit the cottage vibe. Why not have a look at the colour scheme at Sundborn and the way Karin Larsson decorated, would be perfect for your cottage.

A country hutch would look good in your kitchen if you have room. Those wallpapers have an English vibe to them- maybe look in the library for traditional Swedish designs or online. Do invest in real sheepskin ‘Ugg’ boots - I live in them in the winter here where it doesn’t get below 8C. It always astonishes me that people in cold countries get around in socks. The moccasin style is better as you won’t be clomping on the wooden floors. It’s a beautiful cottage and should look amazing. Look at mid sky blue for your front door option too.

What a cute, cozy cottage you have there! I like the wallpaper patterns you chose, but I don't think they would work in your cottage. I would stick with lighter paint colors on walls and ceilings and maybe try some patterns elsewhere on rugs and textiles. If you really, really want to use wallpaper , consider using it inside closets and cupboards, it adds a nice surprise when you open them up. Also, small bathrooms can take a busy wallpaper pattern because you're only in there (usually) for short amounts of time, and it's unexpected to see it there. I love the green on the front door. Subscribed!
  • My experiences with wallpaper are they are expensive and hard to put on and hard to take off especially if you get tired of the design after a couple of years. Find some good warm paints or wood panel a feature wall and decorate with beautiful pictures, photos of family and beautiful curtains. A feature family wall is always lovely.

I like some of your choices. However, I'm not really a wallpaper fan. I do look forward to seeing what you do here though as it will be lovely I'm sure. However, maybe also think about different choices too? what do you think?

No logic? 🤔 Yes there is! 😊 You say you're starting with the easiest job. After it's done, it's gone. The next job is now the easiest, you do it, it's gone, and so on. Finally, the last job isn't the monumentally difficult one, it's just the one that's left to do. I noticed this felling trees with a pole saw, one branch at a time. I'm no wallpaper expert but I know that the sunshine through tree branches (through old rolled-glass windows?) makes lovely patterns on very light, subtle-patterned walls. One way to bring the outside inside? If insulation / heating are also on your to-do-list I'd be very interested to see that. In the UK we are coming under some pressure to install heat pumps, no matter the house's suitability, 🥶 whereas you guys have them almost everywhere.

If you sort of like the paint in the master bedroom, consider Orange Blossom. When the light hits it, you will love it. Odd choice, but many of my friends did this colour after seeing my guest room. Love your home.
