My friend who told me about this engine:

PRR Alco RS3:
A diesel electric built between May 1950- August 1956. A total of 1418 were produced between that time. With 40 inch wheels & a length of approximately 56 ft 6in, & a weight of 247,000 Ib (112,100 Kg) it produced a tractive effort of 61,775 Ib (28,021 Kg). A top speed of 85 mph (137 km/h), the motor that supported this was a V12 four stroke diesel.
This engine sits in weeds & waits for a day that it can get the love it deserves. Although this engine has missing parts, it still could have a chance at some kind of survival.

Wow! The vultures picked it clean!! It’s a shell now!!

If you search PRR 8479 you can find pictures of this locomotive while it was still in service and also when it was parked alongside the shops in Reading, PA. You can also find the sad last few years of its history.

Alco RS-3.

Great video! You guys sure know your locomotives! Do you think they’ll restore it? I think it has a lot of potential. That’s back in the good, after war, EMD years when railroads first started to dieselize their locomotive fleet.
-
It was in running condition when parked. Heavy vandalism made it totally worthless, but from what I see, it appears she’s been harvested for parts to restore other ALCO RS3’s.

Man its looking worse than ever! Hope sombody saves it....

Looks like no rails, it’s just sitting on the ground 😮

Sad To See An Old Abandoned And Stripped Locomotive Like That. It's A Wonder The PRR Left It There Instead Of Scrapping It Out...

Interesting that the engine still has the smaller numbers below the cab windows, instead of the larger numbers found on diesels later on. Taken out of service long ago before the number change? Just curious....is the engine sitting on a disused spur track or siding that still connects to an active track, or is the track completely isolated?

Spray a little starter fluid in the engine, should start right up. 😂

Gee, I wonder if the "builder's plates" were still attached to the side frames ...... just kidding.
