Are you a fan of the classic sitcom, Cheers? It was a monster hit for NBC in the 1980’s and chronicled the exploits of a group of bar patrons and workers in Boston. The cast has largely gone on to great success, including Kelsey Grammer, who managed to stretch a 3 episode arc into several seasons on the show, and a spinoff series of his own. But did you know that Kelsey released a book after the show ended, where he said that the reason he was asked to stay on was simply to annoy another cast mate?

Grammer made the remarkable statement, which was then treated as true until a producer on the show actually came out and said it was false! In this video, we’re taking a look at the feuds that happened on Cheers, and how Kelsey and this costar never quite saw eye to eye. We also talk about how and when certain cast members left the show, and what Kelsey’s journey on Cheers and Frasier was like.

We’ll also talk about Kelsey’s remarks about his long-time friend and costar Kirstie Alley, after her death in late 2022. We’ll go over his love for his costar, and why she came to his aid when he needed her most. Finally, we’ll take a look at the upcoming reboot of Frasier, slated to come to Paramount Plus in 2023! I loved the chemistry between Frazier and Lilith. They cracked me up.

Frazier's best line in Cheers was after he finished writing his will he was at the bar and says: "I can go home and face death now, I just hope I don't wake her up".

Kelsey has my favorite sitcom line ever: "It's impossible for men to use sex to get what we want. Sex IS what we want!"
  • All I know is that he’s a fantastic actor. FRAIZER remains one of my favorite sitcoms.

Loved Cheers; however, Frazier is one of the best comedies in tv history. The casting of David Hyde Pierce as Fraser's brother was brilliant. I still laugh my ass off whenever I catch a rerun.
  • Kelsey Grammer is the only actor to win 3 Emmys for the same character on 3 different shows. Cheers, Wings, & Fraiser.
  • @joshoshea3194
I had no idea that he was originally only meant to star in 3 episodes. And then ended up being one of if not the best characters. Bravo.
  • Shelly Long will always be remembered as the actress that left a successful show for a film career that never really happened

Back in the day when quality actors, quality writers and quality producers made quality tv.
  • I always thought both Long and Alley played terrific characters on Cheers. They were both different yet funny in their own ways. RIP Kirstie

Kelsey reminds me of Bob Newhart. You can surround him with any actors and with good writers, he will shine and the show will succeed. . .
  • If Frazier was a diamond then Niles was his 24k gold setting. One of the few shows I can go back and binge watch and laugh just as much the second or third go round. All the characters were great but DHP was one of my favorites. His slapstick reminded me of Dick Van Dyke because of how well they both did the physical comedy. That takes on a whole nother level of talent.

We watched all three shows he played Fraiser; Cheers, Wings and Frasier. Frasier being my favorite. It was such a perfect casting of Martin and Niles. Martin being so opposite of Fraiser and Niles was so entertaining. He dressed like my dad and my dad was on a cane alot. Dad loved the show too. But Niles was the absolute show stealer for me. He looked like Kelsey Grammar and acted just like Fraiser when he started on Cheers but was also so unique. The way he would sneak a sniff of Daphne’s hair, his descriptions of Maris, the constant competitions with Fraiser, and the over the top snark and sarcasm with Roz and countless others, was absolutely phenomenal and so funny.
  • Frasier is simply the best US sitcom ever made. Best actors, best writers, brilliantly delivered lines. Every episode a masterpiece. I've seen every episode a multitude of times and will never tire of it. Love Kelsey Grammar.

"Diane" appeared on "Frasier" four times, I believe. That tells me that Grammer's irritation with her was not that significant. And honestly, how many people have worked closely with someone for years and not been irritated by them at least a few times?!
  • @RLucas3000
I hope Niles makes guest appearances. And I would LOVE if Lilith ends up the Dean at the college where Frasier teaches! Their chemistry is lightning in a bottle!

I was a nightclub musician back in those days, and there was one Cheers casting choice that intertwined with my life: The old man in the brown fedora who always sat by the back wall. Every bar I ever played in had some version of that old guy perched on his favorite stool, pontificating his opinions on everything, including my musicianship! North or South, East or West, these old guys were everywhere! I hope they're still out there, God bless 'em!
  • I met Kelsey and his wife at a birthday party in Santa Barbara. He was kind and gracious calling me by name throughout the evening and allowing me a selfie. Cheers and Frasier are two of the best shows ever. I am presently reading director James Burrows' wonderful book called Directed by James Burrows.
