That was without doubt the most poignant model railroad video I've ever watched. Simply brilliant.

I'm sooo glad this popped on my feed. What an incredible video! The history, the layout, the sounds, the photos, the music.. it all hits, and it hits hard. I'm not crying, you're crying! Very well done!
  • I remember watching Milwaukee Road traffic in Dresbach Minnesota back in the 80's great layout and seeing telephone poles along the tracks I miss the Milwaukee Road

Outstanding presentation, excellent work. The music certainly fits the history of this storied line. Really nicely done...
  • Wow!!!!!! What a quality production. The still photos were as captivating as the video shots. The music was,to me, spot on. Don't know if you like Neil Young but I think "Heart of Gold" would have fit in. But The Who always get my attention . Dylan and Simon and Garfunkel were perfect to. Railfanning with good music in the car! Thank you very much.

Great layout + great editing makes for one of the best videos I’ve watched in a long time. Well done.

15:13: I can assure you that MILW trackage to Tacoma was still very much in service in 1978. I watched the last eastbound trains leave town in March 1980.

Brilliant video, loved the use of the music, it brought a real feeling to the video and the story behind the line....

Ed, this is an absolute master piece production. Looking back now, I kind of wish I hadn't gone down the road of being a factory field representative out delivering and fixing rail equipment 30 some years ago, and instead built a layout. Being both a Milwaukee lines west fan and modeler, your layout speaks to me, and it is just a beautiful creation. Next time I visit Mike Burgett's layout, maybe we could arrange a visit? Must be something in the air (or water) up there!
  • Beautiful video here! As I fan of The Milwaukee Road's Pacific Extension/Transcon Mainline it greatly pains me to see the once great line now abandoned and forgotten but at the same time wonderful job documenting the story of this line here. I plan on modeling this same line one day.

Fantastic! Heartbreaking at the same time.

The bridge at the 7:48 minute mark looks just like the bridge at Henderson siding about 3 miles east of Haugen, MT. I worked a derailment there in the fall of 1979 while stationed at Haugen on the Section crew.

At the time, in the fall of 1979, the Milwaukee Road, stationed a 4 unit helper set of GP30's at Haugen...FYI. Would be interesting to integrate that.
