"You can't manage somebody into battle; you must lead them."
-
I can say for sure that if I was a staffer coming in to a leadership position of men with actual combat experience at their level of expertise, I would defer to their leadership and advice and learn as much from them as I possibly could. Nothing else makes sense to me. I do know that there is a lot that I don't know. I don't know how much I don't know but I do know that they know more than I know about what they know!😊 To sum it up, big egos don't stop bullets.
-
Just another reason to purge the CIA and put nonpolitical competent operators in!
-
This was one of the best interviews you have ever done, although they are all great!
-
Having thirty-two years of government experience, thirteen as a supervisor, I've seen a lot of this 'management hiring mentality'. It's just scary when one realizes, it's in place, for the most critical (and life threatening) agencies.
-
I have relinquished ever so slightly my initial impression of this interview...considering re watching it. Have a great day :P

Benevolence over deception.
-
Higher education will NEVER trump ability and common sense.
-
This work dynamic can also be seen in all civilian business organizations. Lots of middle managers that cannot do the operational work. They just manage people even though great people doesn’t need to be managed. People just need to be inspired as #SteveJobs once put it, in one of his early days interviews.

This conversation is so gated.

Yessss

criminals basically

The mentality of “leadership” is not only wrong in the government it has either trickled down or comes from the private sector as well. “Led by the unknowing, serving the ungrateful”. Quota hires, and college degrees don’t always translate to good leaders, and sadly actual good leaders don’t match up with the corporate model of today. This is why we’ve seen incompetence and just complete lack of awareness of what’s really going on from management in most companies.

Imagination is in control

Sounds like State Department Agents going to MSD
-
You don't do an interview like this unless the company has a reason for you to do it.
-
What is a "staffer"?
-
I love how he says “That kind of work”. Instead of contract killer lol

This seems to be exceptionally common throughout the government. One of the things that stood out to me reading 13 Hours was that the 5 members of Diplomatic Security Team added altogether had less combat experience than a single average GWOT infantryman. Who tf are they hiring? Why tf would they place those people in that situation and believe that everything would work out just fine? Stupidity at its finest.
