Dr. Gary Fettke is an Orthopaedic Surgeon practising in Launceston, Australia. Along with his wife Belinda, Gary has also opened the 'Nutrition for Life – Diabetes and Health Research Centre' based in Launceston which provides nutritional care around Tasmania and Australia.

Gary has a longstanding interest in the preventative aspects of health outcomes, particularly before operating on his patients. Recently an AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency) investigation into Gary’s qualifications to give nutritional advice has concluded. This investigation (which lasted for more than two years) has resulted in Gary being issued a ‘caution’.

The Medical Board of Tasmania, under the umbrella of the Australian Health Practitioners Regulatory Authority, have advised him; ”In particular, that he does not provide specific advice or recommendations on the subject of nutrition and how it relates to the management of diabetes or the treatment and/or prevention of cancer.”

"It's easier to fool people than convince them that they have been fooled." Love this!

I was raised on the meat and 3 veg diet and on rare occasions my father would bring home a case of in season fruit that we would all gorge on. Fruit was a treat & raiding neighborhood trees of a few fruit was one of the best memories from childhood. Now I have my own fruit trees, berries and vine fruit which I indulge in a few & give the rest away.
  • "Maybe fruit is a processed food" Much Kudos sir. Outstanding presentation.

I've been doing keto for a few weeks and had strawberries. When you cut out grains, sugar, and fruit most of the time fruit tastes like dessert. The strawberries were SO sweet to me since my taste has changed on keto. It puts fruit in perspective. Fruit has a place but not to be eaten like vegetables and high quality meats are to be eaten.

Applying the Adam & Eve story was brilliant on so many levels! That's actually a very profound concept. Thank you for that. Every time I try to tell people to stop eating their Franken-fruits, they always recite the same brainwashed script about how "healthy it is to eat fruit." ARGH! It's especially frustrating when I hear this coming from my friends who are trying to lose weight! They tell me about their "healthy, low fat breakfast" of cereal, fat-free milk and bananas. And they wonder why they're craving another meal by 11AM and can't seem to lose any weight.

Excellent video. Thank you Dr. Fettke. You're a very good person. Don't ever stop trying to help us. We're listening.

I agree with this take on fruit. Since 70's I learned to eat muffins the size of pies. Bread, nachos etc. Then in 90's tried to get healthier and lose weight so I made large blender drinks full of every fruit, kale, spinach etc. Thinking it would be wonderful for my health. Because everywhere I was told this was the best for my body. Wrong, so so many health ad weight issues. Now I am trying low carb and carnivore. Feel so much better and weight down. Husband does not agree. Finding Utube and all these information podcasts has been a life saver. Too bad I had to reach my 70's to learn about. Great work.

Excellent talk Gary. I just hope that your voice reaches out to the young people. I’m 70 yr and have only found by my own research that keto is the saviour of mankind in the last year. I had type 2 diabetes. My doctor was amazed to see that my blood test was “ like a normal person without diabetes”. On my last visit. I also lost 16 kg (was 76kg am now 60kg) this was all done by eating more food the difference being it was “real food” Most people have trouble understanding this as advertising by all the food industries has been nothing less than devastating and highly effective on the general public. All your vids are fantastic and no more so than on me Along with Robert Lustig you are the bomb that the world needs to move forward. Well done

Dr. Harry didn't say fruit was bad, he made sure to tell to just be careful with it and have it in moderation. Fruit is not a health source, by having more does not mean better health. I can tell in my experience, that all diabetics i know, are crazy about fruit. Especially the ones that have higher indexes of sugar, grapes, mango, cherries, apples...

Modern fruits don't even resemble natural fruits

In the 50’s 60’s fruit was a dessert eaten in moderation. Maybe 4 to 5 times a month. If I would beg for more I was told too much sugar not good for you. We knew more about nutrition then much less today.
  • @LadyForestStar
I ate a lots of fruits and have been a defender of fruit as the former Veg I've been. Until I noticed what it does to me. I knew sugar was bad, but fruit and honey got to be my replacer. But after quitting white bread and sugar 10years ago, my health slowly got bad again. Until my teeth got really bad and I realised how much honey and fruit I eat everyday. Started my Healthy Keto journey 1,5month ago. And I can tell the difference allready after 4th day!

I decided that I will only eat fruit that I gather myself from grows wild near my house. That will seasonally limit my fruit consumption to mulberries and blackberries. And I only ever pick that fruit when I'm out exercising, typically during a jog, because they grow along the route I take. Wild fruit is far less sweet and far more nutritious. Occasionally going out of ketosis for some wild fruit seems like it shouldn't be a problem. But I'll do it as an experiment and see how I feel. The berries should be coming out soon.

My thoughts exactly! I stopped eating fruit last year and my health shifted for better. And in recent months I’ve read more articles supporting the idea that fructose is not good for the human body. Thank you for this talk.
  • Sugar addiction is like alcoholism. Fruit is like wine, they both may have health benefits, but they both have the addictive compounds. If you don’t want to continue an addiction the best thing to do is to go completely off the offending substance. The best way to cure a sugar addiction is to stay satiated with healthy fats.

October 2019... just to say that since giving this talk in 2017 referring to the official attempt by the medical establishment in Canberra to silence him, he has received an unconditional apology from them and leave to give talks like this without fearing being disbarred as a doctor. But the fact that they tried supports fully his identification of the dark corporate forces at work in Australia and elsewhere to silence argument....for profit. Now on to GMOs

Modern fruit is 100% processed food when considered through the lens of what we'd define as processed foods today, incredible

I developed severe IBS in my 20's. I have no idea how I raised 3 children and held down a job! Long story short I realised my symptoms were worse when I ate fruit. So for many years now I have not touched it. Symptoms are 90% better. Still occasional poor days but after 18 months keto that's improving too. I have always assumed it was the fructose. Regardless, life is so much better fruitless!
  • @melisand8295
I have IBS, after years of misery I eliminated fruit from my diet. I have sustained a huge improvement for 17 years now. For some people fruit is simply poison. Really makes me wonder how the vegans get on!
