I react Guy Martin's most prized possession. A Rolls Royce Merlin V12 pulled from a 1942 Lancaster bomber. The engine was also used in other planes flown by the Allied powers during WW2.
Guy Martin's enthusiasm for the Rolls Royce Merlin is palpable and infectious to see, even through a screen. Was recommended by a subscriber and this reaction is one of my favorites I've done.

He wears his heart on his sleeve and has the honesty to love the child inside. He doesn't aspire for petty things that'll mean nothing to no one when he's gone, but to the stories he's been told and to the stories he will tell.

You need to watch Guy Martin being interviewed on the MotoGP grid. He is that excited his mouth cannot keep up with what he is thinking and he is literally talking 2 sentences at once. It is so enduring to see someone with that much passion.

Guy is not interested in TV, social media, smartphones or anything else what the sheep of today class as "important". He is as you see him on screen. A proper man. 👍🏻

The unalloyed delight just shines through, and with that growl from the Merlin you can see why! 15 or so years ago (maybe 20?) I was playing village cricket when the game, without anyone saying anything, just stopped. We all looked up and tracked a sole aircraft as it flew past and vanished into the haze. We had all heard the engine and as one did what almost any Englishman will do - look for the aircraft. I have known games to be delayed for many reasons but never before "Spitfire stopped play" :)

Rolles royce Merlin 1 in the spitfire 1 in the hurricane 1 in the Mustang 2 in the Mosquitto 4 in the Lancaster 4 in the Halifax the engine that not only won the Battle of Britain, but that arguably helped win the whole war.

I grew up next to RAF Northolt which is where all the WW2 planes like spitfires, hurricanes and Lancaster Bombers would gather before a flyover in London. Once you hear a Merlin engine you'll never forget it. It sounds like nothing else. It sounds like victory after struggle. Makes me feel proud to be a Brit. ✌️♥️🇬🇧
