Pokemon Lunatic Crystal v1.6 - Wise Trio and Suicune

Published 2024-04-18
After defeating Giovanni in the Radio Tower and saving the day, the player is rewarded with the Clear Bell and can now enter the Tin Tower and face Suicune.

While this originally is an optional location and encounter, here the player is forced to defeat the Wise Trio and defeat or capture Suicune, as Clair will not return to the Blackthorn Gym until those conditions have been met.

The Wise Trio consists of 3 Sages, all of whom have 4 Pokemon each. The most difficult part is that this is a back to back to back battle, meaning you have to defeat 12 Pokemon in a row without healing or being able to reorder your party. Thankfully all of their Pokemon are Level 57 and have no held items.

Their teams follow a pattern: Early Bird, Gen 1 Eeveelution, one member of the Elemental Trio (Electabuzz, Jynx or Magmar) and a Leaf Stone evolution.

They all lead with a bird (Noctowl, Fearow, Pidgeot), follow up with an Eeveelution and Jynx, Magmar or Electabuzz and have Victreebel, Vileplume and Exeggutor as their final Pokemon.

Leading with a Steel type is a great idea here, as the only bit of coverage the birds have is Steel Wing and Psychic in Noctowl's case. A fire type is fantastic to have here to deal with Jynx and all the Grass types and a Ground type can counter Electabuzz and Jolteon very well. Bring a strong Electric type to beat Vaporeon, Grass types aren't fully safe as it has Ice Beam.

They aren't that hard on their own, but they can overwhelm you if they get crits and lucky KO's on your Pokemon, having to beat 12 Pokemon that are decently powerful with good movesets can be a challenge. Thankfully, if you lose here to the 2nd or 3rd Sage, you won't have to fight the ones you've defeated already again.

After dealing with the Sages, the player has to battle Suicune and catching it is tricky, with a very low catch rate. Not only that, but Suicune also has a Powerful STAB in Hydro Pump, Blizzard for coverage, Mirror Coat to counter any special hits and Rain Dance to boost the damage of Hydro Pump. Thankfully a bulky water type can wall it, especially if it has Leftovers, so Blastoise or Tentacruel for instance are great here. Grass types can come in as well, once Suicune runs out of Blizzard. Try avoiding hitting it with Physical moves and put it to sleep or paralyze it, that's generally the best advice for this encounter.

Also, Suicune has to be caught or defeated to progress, as you cannot simply run away from this battle.

  • You understand now why I cloned my master ball in the game 😅 i can't believe that you managed to catch a Lvl62 Suicune in a great ball, very impressive anyway😎 you're a master, even without the master ball

10% chance to freeze and Jynx freezes on a switch. These chances.
