With Super Mario Odyssey taking the world by storm, now seems like a fantastic time to discuss the story of Yoshiaki Koizumi, Nintendo's secret weapon.

Yoshiaki's been around in the background for Nintendo for years - he even showed up in our Majora's Mask video - but it was interesting delving into his history with the company as he's risen to prominence with the release of the Switch.

We're in the process of moving house at the moment so we're really rushed, but we wanted to get this out to you just in time for the release of Odyssey. As we won't be able to do the whole social media thing (limited internet) we'd really appreciate any extra help you could give us, getting this out to places like Reddit and other online communities. Your help means the world to us!

Thanks, have a great day!

It's nice to see Koizumi get some recognition lately after all of his great work on the Mario and Zelda series.

Koizumi having trouble with Super Mario Bros. kinda explains why there aren't gameovers on the odyssey
  • This is really inspiring for me personally. Just like Yoshiaki, I aspire to tell stories in different mediums, be it movies, animations and even games. But, I've always been intimidated more so with games, because unlike most indie devs I don't know how to program a thing, and numbers are not exactly my passion or specialty. But, this guy has had a hand in crafting the most influential games of these last decades with his storytelling abilities alone. Maybe there is a place for a guy like me to bring a creative vision to life in the industry.

This narrator and the music makes this video seem like a bedtime story.

Excellent video. Yoshiaki Koizumi is DEFINITELY one to watch.
  • I need his entire story for Majora's Mask! That game has a huge impact on me and this man helped bring it to life with Aonuma

I want you to know that your words in the end shook me to tears. You've spoken exactly what I'm going through. I'm afraid of failure so I'm not doing anything I want to do in life. I'm working my same job and being sad. I used to play rock music in a band. I had aspirations to voice act. Make games, animations, and all kinds of things. I need to stop being so afraid. Thank you.

I often get discouraged by Miyamoto’s less than friendly attitude to video game story, it warms my heart to hear people who loves story like me has Koizumi on our side.

You guys are awesome, and I'm so suprised you don't have more subs

Odyssey is just pure glee in video game form. I've had the widest grin the entire time I've been playing. Love hearing about its creation in your style; they pair so well together!
  • I can never finish one of your vidios because I get inspired and start to work on my game project!
  • This guy is my hero! He had a hand in creating some of my favorite characters and really fleshed out the Hyrule I knew for years!

At the end they always inspire you to the point we're you cry tears of joy

Yoshiaki Koizumi is such a great member of the Nintendo staff, I'm honestly sad that I didn't know about him until he started appearing more often, such as in the Nintendo Switch Presentation and Direct. The fact that he's responsible for the amazing and rich story and gameplay of Majora's Mask to the creative take of Super Mario Galaxy, and Rosalina's Storybook, which was definitely not necessary, but made Rosalina a much more likeable character. And now, we have Odyssey.

This is why Ubisoft and EA need an indie dev team where they can breathe new life into their stale companies.

I've only seen two of these videos but I'm already in love. Beautiful voice, and the prose-read children's book presentation has literally made me cry on a few occasions. This idea is really novel. Subbed.
