  • It's always funny to see people on twitter claim they want lower budget, stylized games but didn't buy Octopath 2, Triangle Strategy, Bravely default 2, neo twewy and a whole lot more. I still remember when that Bayonetta origins game was first announced and my timeline was full of "who asked for this?" tweets.

Regarding FF7 Rebirth's sales, I think many people simply can't afford or don't want to buy a PS5 just to play this game. I did, and I certainly enjoy the game, but it doesn't justify the over $600 I spent just to play it. I think the PC version of Rebirth will be more successful than the PS5 version, especially once it gets to steam.
  • 16 and FF7R being PS5 exclusives was like tying their legs together and telling them to run a marathon

This was the best analysis of SquareEnix's financial losses I've seen yet. Tired of hearing Youtubers say "See, Square lost money because of Tifa's boobs!" lol. SquareEnix: Hmm the Resident Evil Remakes are very popular...What to do?... Me: Remake Parasite Eve!!!

Pricing is definitely a huge factor when playera decide to open their wallets, especially regional pricing. Dont charge AAA prices for AA projects. People are alwayd going to look at what they get for the price they paid.

Triangle Strategy was a wonderful game. I'm sad that we probably won't get a sequel of it, but I can always hope.

Yeah, I saw literally tens of viral videos talking about how it's over for SE and how they're cooked and I'm like: "How?!" This decision is literally the best thing they could do to save the company. Meanwhile everybody posting videos and sharing news like it's the end of the world for SE. lol

I think cutting the fat and trying to be as lean and quality as possible is the best move for sure. I don't agree at all with the people that think FF has lost too much relevance to sell what they need it to. FF can reinvent itself and has done so several times. If FF17 is a banger free of the baggage of any prior games it can be big. They just have to nail it.

SquareEnix also needs to admit (unfortunately Japanese business culture makes this impossible) that they themselves fucked up. Some of these flops were because THEY made shit decisions as developers or because suits couldn't stay out of the way and sabatoged their projects. Regard Neo The World Ends with You, they need to admit that they didn't market that game at all outside of Japan. They sent that game, a very decent game out to die.
  • As long as I get the third part of FFVII: Remake series, I’m good. The only other thing I could want is a reboot of Xenogears and FFXVII.

This is obviously sad news for anyone involved in the development of those cancelled game, but it didn't take a genius to realise it was completely stupid to release all those AA games within weeks of each other back in 2022 (The Diofield Chronicle, Harvestella... I just checked the list, it's 9 games within the space of 3 months). Not only weren't they received well, but even if they had been good, they would have just been the game of the week that nobody played and got forgotten instantly
  • @REVOLVERE
I'm glad SE is finally getting their shit together. They've been in the slumps for far too long. I just hope that SE stays as far away as possible from NFT's. Whatever happened to that crap?

As a fan this sounds like what we've been asking for for over a decade now. Square Enix has some of the most beloved IP's in gaming history. All they have to do is drop the exclusivity deals, and have all hands on deck to refine and polish games Like FF7Rebirth and KH4 with quality we've been starved of since the PS2 days. They had their era of "Do everything but make the games people want." Now they're saddling up and getting ready to return to the big hitters THE RIGHT WAY. Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Kingdom Hearts, and others. They have the means, they have the IPs, they have a functioning game engine, and they have the fans. They've proven what they can do with Rebirth, and hopefully they can prove what they can do with KH4.

A rule of thumb in the video game industry is that 9/10 games fail, but the 1 also needs to carry / pay the other 9.
  • @phantomslay5612
As long as nothing interferes with FFVII Remake part 3’s release I’ll be happy.
  • @solomoneom7665
Part of the problem is that none of these big corporations consider making money in the long term after a game release. All that matters are immediate sales. New fans are born, and old fans die every day, and the new ones don't always outpace the old ones.
  • @Armored14
Something that Square doesn’t seem to realize that when you only release a game on one platform at a time, you’re not going to get record sales numbers.
  • @shh532
They were pushing these older games out to essentially die without marketing support or hype. Square needs to get back to being the true triple A meister quality it used to be - we need FFVII, KH4, FF7R3, DQ, Nier etc. without these projects floating in development/personality hell for years. They still have some of the greatest talent the world has ever seen for games and the pedigree to do so muhc more. It also needs to all be day and date on PC now because PS5 is just too small an install base and FF's resurgence has been so heavily fed by XIV.
