My theory on why Harmon was talking during the game is because she has no idea how to behave in an official tournament. It is her first official tournament after all :D

I think when Beth said “I don’t have to use the Queen” she was referring to the queen sacrifice. She didn’t need the queen to deliver the checkmate itself. That explains why she said “do you see it now?” referring to what she said earlier.

“..at this point Beth goes to the bathroom” .. where she happens to meets Kramnik who is taking another break during his match with Topolov.. 🤔

Such a good show, I'd massively recommend it to anyone who hasn't yet watched it. Be careful not to start too late in the day though because this is one you will watch all the way through, even if it means staying up until 5am!

Sounds like the show needs a Ben Finegold character to say "No talking."

You should have been the official commentator on every game of “The Queen’s Gambit”. It would have been a great opportunity to bring people to chess, and to bring chess enthusiast to the show. You could say it was in this position that Netflix missed a winning idea

Spoiler alert: I like how in the show, although Bobby Fischer didn’t seem to exist in that fictional world, they still sort of gave him a mention when Beth’s adoptive mother was trying to refer to Benny but incorrectly remembers him as ‘Bobby’. (Edit: that Agadmator yawn was epic)

My mom made fun of me for watching the Croatia GCT last year and then binged this show without me.

I wish they had done a "making of" doc for this show. Watching some of the coaching the actors went through would have been cool.

Bathroom ceiling calculation scene seemed like reference to Veselin Topalov vs Kramnik, where Topalov lost - then filed a case againt Kramnik, claiming that: “He went to the bathroom too much and cheated.” It was also further claimed that: -Bathroom is the only room without camera. -There is a cable connected to the ceiling. -Kramnik forfeited the next game after not being allowed to use the bathroom.
