This is one of the more obscure games I have childhood memories of. I actually did and still do enjoy it, possibly owing to the fact that my nostalgia dates back to way before I was actually familiar enough with Rare to have internalized their reputation.

What makes this game great is it leans a bit more to the racing than other kart racers. In the sense that the skill balance between racing and combat is more towards the racing.

I loved this game as a boy! Played it so often... good old times :-)
  • I personally liked this game more than Diddy Kong Racing. This was mainly because I felt the controls were tighter and the atmosphere of the game was much happier due to the Disney characters. I felt the dialogue, although repetitive actually really helped in making the game feel that happiness. I'll admit this game could be seen as a bit disappointing than some of the other Rare games, but this game certainly had charm.
  • I really enjoyed this back in the day. As you progressed, the difficulty increased hugely on the late cups/modes. The handling was also absolutely sublime.

This is an awesome kart racer, if someone thinks otherwise he/she din't actually play it. If mario kart is in 1st, didi konkg racing 2nd, this is a close 3rd kart racer onthe system
  • It's a massive blast of nostalgia for me, my grandfather, his wife, her granddaughter, and I would play it just about every single day we could

The visual presentation is top notch if anything else.

This is the one Rare N64 game that I haven't played

I actually quite like this one, it's fun enough, but you're right in saying that it doesn't hold a candle to Didi Kong Racing, which is probably my favorite kart racer ever.

Another superb review by someone that really knows their stuff!

Thanks for the vid. It kept me calm for 4 minutes while I wait to complete my motorcycle course and exam lol

Me and my family loved Mickey's speedway USA this is a big part of my childhood right here.
  • Think this game was totally underrated. Had a lot of fun with it. Controls and graphics were solid. Didn't reinvent the wheel, but right up there as one of the better kart racers I've played.

I actually really like this game, with the exception of the story and characters talking to one another. The concept of the karts for medium and hard difficulty settings for the circuits are my absolute favorite and in a colorful way, the controls are tight as hell, and it looks like MK64 and DKR poured into a cauldron, mixed with Disney magic, adding the mouse himself and his pals, and this is the result. There are also some cheats like, shrinking your characters, for making things easier. All and all, this Disney kind of Mario Kart sure is worth the experience without upsetting the players.

One of my gripes with this game is that the camera always seems to be placed a little too low, which sometimes makes it a bit hard to see what's just ahead on the track.

The only thing I dislike about this game is the voice acting (its not bad, but is overused and it gets annoying) and nothing more. Controls are fine, track design is great, the solid DKR Drift mechanic, graphics are neat and the music isn't that bad (there's catchy tunes like san francisco and grand canyon). For me, is a good alternative if you're tired of mario kart 64 and you beated Diddy Kong Racing entirely (like me).
  • I've never once played this game before and I have only played a little bit of Diddy Kong Racing and a lot of Mario Kart 64! I still might get this game someday anyway because I sure do love Disney and the fact that Rare collaborated with Disney to make a racing game like this is just super duper awesome in my opinion for sure!

Not to mention the kick ass soundtrack!
